    JTV Model Received: JTV-69 Black

    Order Date: 9/02/10

    Received Date: 1/6/11

    City/Country: Cedar Rapids, Iowa/ USA

    Retailer: Musician's Friend

No problems as of yet.  Body/Paint looks great.  Neck excellent.  Strings almost in tune (all the way from Korea).  Tremolo bar in bag pocket.  Guitar came with a digital cable and USB cable.  (Guess I didn't need to buy the digital cable as a separate item).  Waiting for battery to charge to plug in and test the electronics.

By digital cable do you mean it came with a VDI cable?

Yeah, be careful. The cable that comes with it is just from the Variax to the Workbench interface. The non-variax end does not have the sleeve around it so you could mess up your connector if you use it plugged into the Pod (assuming it would work, I haven't tried it).

It will work; the VDI cable is nothing but a heavy-duty Ethernet cable with Neutrik connectors at either end.

Ah, cool. I've never used a VDI cable so I didn't know if there was any difference or any danger of messing up the jack.

One additional comment I forgot to add: I really like the sound of this guitar unplugged. I know that sounds silly but I've always found that the sound of an unplugged electric says a lot about the guitar. From the moment I pulled this one out of the gig bag, it had a loud, resonant, really nice sound to it acoustically.

Just realized that mine has a small ding on the third fret which you can feel when you sustain the B string with some vibrato. You can feel and hear it getting caught in the nick in the fret. Pretty minor and I was going to see my luthier tomorrow (about another guitar) anyway so hopefully he can just buff it out. Slight bummer, none the less.

It may be easy to remedy, but you shoudln't have to

Agreed to both you guys. That is a weird one. Did the ding look like the string got smacked into the fret?

Not all the way from Korea. Remember, every single guitar is set up and shipped from California.

Definitely looked like string against fretboard (I had this happen on an old strat of mine when I played slide with my mic stand one gig so I was familiar with it...lol) however it was between the 1st and 2nd strings so that was kinda weird. I don't think it could have happened since I got the guitar (It hadn't been knocked around at all and had just been played in my bedroom for less than an hour at that point) but anything's possible. Easily remedied by my luthier today in about 30 seconds though!

Thank you for the info. We will work harder to be sure this doesn't slip by.

I posted this in another thread as well but shortly you will be able to buy just the ends to go around the connector from here.

    http://www.audiopile.net/products/BOSE_L1/BOSE_L1_Products.shtml

scroll to the bottom of the page.

Now that said, that will probably make it impossible to plug your guitar back into your computer.  I have never owned a variax so I don't know all the ins and outs, I will post from a better perspective (and a happier place) as soon as my JTV69 arrives.

Just as a quick aside, can you plug into the HD500 from the variax using the RJ45 plug and then usb into the computer and connect to the workbench software?

You can buy them NOW.  Have a look at the big name electronic supply companies (Digikey, Mouser, Electrosonic) - I seem to recall at least one carried them.  I've also seen them available on eBay occasionally.

Reading through the various topics on received JTV's, I couldn't help but notice that most of them have been black JTV-69's. That's the on I have on order as well ... here's to hoping that Line 6 spare a few for the UK as well, and don't sell all of them in the US!
