I ordered mine in August from Sweetwater and it got here last night.

Took it to my guitar lessons last night. The instructor, a retired Nashville Session guitarist, loved it. There are so many usable sounds. The acoustic sounds are especially improved. Thanks line6 for finally delivering.JTV-69 Red.jpg

Ok, I didn't make it until noon. I left work at 11:00. I brought the box in the house and looked it over first, a few dents in the cardboard, and some wrinkles showing it had been slightly crushed somewhere along the line, but not too bad.

I didn't want to risk weather checking on it's first day, it's about 20 degrees here, so I only opened the top of the box and took out the battery and charger to start getting the battery ready. I managed to keep myself busy for about 2 hours and then took out the gig bag. Pretty nice gig bag actually, nicely padded and insulated. The guitar looks great, finish is very nice with no blems noticed yet. Battery not yet charged, but the pups work, so tuned it and started playing a little.

I think I'm in love. Beautiful sexy body, nice silky feeling neck. As long as her personality matches the great looks, I am happy!

No sign of truss rod or bridge wrenches, but the cables, Pilot's Guide, manual, battery, and charger are all there.

Not sure of this -- mine was way out of tune. It was two notes below E tuning and as I just said, out of tune. With the trem, it took me a while to get it stable, but it has been rock solid since. Love the guitar. By the way, I play the Taylor T5, a Taylor 855 (12 swting) and a 36 year old Guild F40 BLD, plus some basses

Oh, I like that finish a lot.  I'd take that over the tobacco.  And yeah, the gig bag is nice.  It is not a $20 cheapo gig bag that gets thrown in with a low tier guitar.  I'm reassured now that I have mine to see in person.

Just a HEADS UP for those who think they may be missing wrenches: They were in the large pocket of the Gig bag in my case, not with the other stuff in the box. So I suspect this is where they will be for everyone. Not obvious as there's nothing else in there, but look for your wrenches at the bottom of the pouches in the gig bag.

Thats good news about the trem. I am in the same boat. I have been playing a really well setup 500 every days for years but I miss the trem. Looking forward to my Black 69.

    Cheers,

Is there supposed to be a truss rod cover?  Mine doesn't have one (JTV-89).    Otherwise mine looks good so far.  Just taking time in between work, supper, and evening meeting to mention the truss rod cover.  Will actually plug it in and play tonight, take some pictures, and post what I find.  Also, for those getting mags and models simultaneously through POD X3, I think I found the answer.  Will check later.

JTV Model Received: JTV-69 Sexy Black

    Order Date: Sept?

    Received Date: Jan 11

    City/Country: Cleveland, OH, USA

    Retailer: Sweetwater

issues: 1.   i can't find any wrenches anywhere.  the big zipper pouch to my case was open, and there was a hole in the line6 box (but not the sweetwater box).

    2.  there is a small pinhole nick in the finish below the bridge.  it looks like it might go all the way through the top layer.  i don't really mind that much, it's small, and i'm sure i'll get some nicks and what not (i'm not a purist), but i have a question for you guys.  Should i be concerned?  could it grow into something more?

3  i'm not so sure i understand the trem.  does that bar just sit loose in the hole?  every other trem i've seen you screw it in a bit.  i'm not really sure if that's an issue or how it's supposed to be.

here's the deal.  thing sounds frickin' awesome.  yes frickin'.  the mag pups and the models all sound great.  my 5 way switch is super steady.  i LOVE the bridge (except for if the trem is supposed to sit loose in there).  plays fantastic. looks much sharper in real life than it did in the pictures.  still think the headstock is ugly though.  battery works as expected.  haven't used the trem really yet, haven't tested with VDI or pod hd500.  but i'm happy.  i'd appreciate any insight into the issues i've got.

    JTV Model Received: JTV-69 Black

    Order Date: August 2010

    Received Date: Jan 11 2011

    City/Country: Smithfield, VA USA

    Retailer: Sweetwater

Well, what can I say...this is a bad-*** guitar!!!  My shipment contained everything: wrenches, USB, Cables, and other case candy,  One thing I did was order a Gator Guitar case w/the it and had Sweetwater ship the guitar in the it, instead of the bag.  Consequently, the guitar was in perfect shape...flawless.  I've previously owned the Variax 500, 600, and 700.  The quality of the new JTV is miles above these.  Outstanding.  It compares to my Brain Moore Custom C90P and to my Strat Deluxe...both American made.

Having said that, the only negative for me (personal preference) is I would have loved to have a maple fretboard and a thinner, soft-V profile neck on the JTV-69.  My main guitar was a Strat Deluxe w/this type of profile.  However, I will say I will probably get used to the JTV-69 Neck...it is way better than previous Variax guitars.  I did replace the .010 strings w/.009s and resetup...  It looks and plays real nice.  Also, I was able to upgrade the firmware and store a couple of my favorite tunings.  I am playing tomorrow night and will use it for the first time.

Thanks to Rich and everyone involved in this product...it is truely a revolutionary Guitar!

    Cheers,

      Alan V

JTV Model Received: JTV 59 Cherry SunBurst

    Order Date: 11/26/10

    Received Date: 1/10/11

    City/Country: USA

    Retailer: Musician's Friend

Box was in good condition, no signs of rough handling.  Wrenches are missing, all other items were there.  Finish is excellent, plays well though intonation is off a bit, I'll have to adjust that.  The fretboard has damage at one of the frets (looks like a fret forced in which split the wood on the edge slightly, several other spots have what looks like stress cracks though very minor, so much for Quality is Job One, I will probably send this one back)  In comparison other than my 700's neck being a little on the grainy side the fretboard  looks much better but doesn't play quite as nicely as the JTV 59.

Feel wise it feels quite a bit different than my 700, more like my Son's LP Studio, and my SG.  Sound wise the alt tuning works really well even down to baritone, and the acoustics do sound quite a bit better than the 700.  The one area IMO that sounds worse than the 700 is the Electric 12 String, hopefully I can fix that up in Workbench.  All of the models seem a bit more bottom end heavy, going to need to tweak my setup's.

I've really enjoyed playing it and it looks beautiful, though I'm a bit disappointed in the quality of the fretboard, and I'm not looking forward to doing without one for who know's how long waiting for the next shipment.

    Dan
