Make your JTV a bass - Tip

I have used Workbench to make a useful bass for recording. I haven't done this with the JTV but have with the Variax 600 and 700 so it should work even better with the JTV.
I used the Strat body and P-90 pickups with the pitch dropped an octave. Use a high capacitor value on the tone control. Use 2 pickups 1 for bridge and 1 for neck and set up switching to select 1 or the other or both. Experiment with variations of the both pickups (series, parallel, in or out of phase).
The magic begins when you use the bass amp models in POD Farm to re-amp your bass recordings. You'll be surprised how you can get a fairly useful bass sound from the Variax this way. Of course string thumping, slapping and pulling don't really work, but for basic bass tracks it does a good job.
Cheers,
Crusty
Thanks for the tip... I had actually started a thread asking about this last month. I am adding your suggestions to my list of experiments to try when I get my JTV and can play with workbench.
I figured that just tuning the Ricky 325 down by an octave should create a convincing 4001, wouldn't you think!?
Just kidding, of course.
I am interested in the Variax Bass. It is a shame that you can't actually use the Variax Bass emulations with the Variax Guitars. You'd think you could get pretty close to the same results if they did the programming to make it a possibility. I'd love to be able to put a couple of my favorite bass emulations into those custom slots on the JTV. But in lieu of that, I'll start with your blueprint. Thanks.
good idea Crusty... So good in fact, that I posted it on my blog... along with a little joke about JTV Bass guitars.... obviously for the bassists, I hope L6 make some new ones.

Okay.
I have done a bit more on my JTV bass in Workbench and have found the lipstick pickups work well.
Help yourself to the WB files below. The octave dropdown is in the patch so make sure the alt tuning on the JTV is set to "Model".

Great Thanks.
BTW, should have this on line 6 wish list for JTV update. Roland have bass emulations on their COSM for VG-99 GR-55 etc. and the demos are quite impressive including thumping slapping pulling (however the amp and effect modeling is quite bad IMHO). http://youtu.be/Y716lKKPzUg
