Re: HD 500 Expression Pedal Compatability

I've heard some people say that the new POD HD500 and 400 units are more sensitive about the ohms they see on an exp pedal.  10K log is what the EX1 has, so a 25K pedal may be a problem (there's no calibration process for the EXP2's).

i do know the EX1 ia actually a pair of 20K linear pots in parallel, which give a 10K overall with a sort of roughly log scale.

        Hans,

I also have the Boss FV-500H pedal. The problem I have with it is that it works in reverse when using the expression jack on the pedal, i.e., toe down in minimum volume and heel down is maximum. How did you fix this problem?

You simply check what the Minimum and Maximum settings are in your preset for the effect that your expression pedal needs to control and you change the values appropriately, then you save the preset and your pedal should respond by controlling the parameters you've set appropriately.  From your description the Minimum value for the controller would seem to be reversed at 100% (change to 0%) and the maximum value would appear to be reversed at 0% (change to 100%).  If the values are already set correctly, then reverse them and your pedal should work correctly.

          Nick

            Nick,

I discovered the fix for this problem by simply reading the Boss FV-500H Pedal Owner's Manual. One MUST use a TRS cable (plugged into the Exp. jack on the Boss) and NOT a regular TS (mono) cable. So far, the volume meter responds well and no calibration is needed. I suppose this will work equally well when using the Boss as an expression pedal for changing the parameters of effects.  So in conclusion, the Boss FV-500H pedal works with the HD 500 when a TRS cable is used. Note: the minimum volume knob on the side of the Boss must turned to "minimum" to bring volume to 0%. This can be adjusted for desired minimum volumes greater than 0% when the pedal is fully depressed to the heel position. Also, the meter reads 0% and 100% before heel and toe travel are completed, respectively. For me, this is no big deal.

              Hey edbryan...

I'm about to buy an FV500 exp pedal.  So you're positive a trs to trs cable works with the HD's using the FV?  Even though the line 6 ex1...using a mono cable.  Just wanted to clear that up before I spend the money on the pedal.

              Thanks.

I was never really happy with the Line 6 pedal. I finally bit the bullet and got an (updated for the HD500) Mission Engineering pedal and got to tell you its awesome. Its sweep is smooth as butta and its all metal so its built like a tank!

You won't be sorry with the Mission engineering pedal.

It works with mine. If you use a TS (mono) cable, the pedal (Boss FV-500H) works in reverse, i.e., heel is maximum and toe is minimum. Of note, I purchased a Mission Engineering pedal, and mine broke within a week of using it.

I did not get good results with M-Audio...

It looks like the range is off... It doesn't get lower than 20% and gets to 100% way before the toe travel is over.

Re: HD 500 Expression Pedal Compatability

    Hi

I have been extremely pleased with my Line 6 Expression Pedal...(EXP2)

I still don't fully understand what the adverse opinions are about the L6 pedal...(EXP2)

Some have said it "appears" to be cheaply made...I disagree....it works fine....and I've never had any issues with it being road worthy...

There are several here who have own one for years...and they have reported that it is rock solid....so is mine....
