Trouble getting all inputs working...

Hello,
I have a Toneport UX2 and i am running it into a Mac 10.6.6 laptop using the Line 6 Monkey with the toneport. I am having trouble getting every input to work except for the Microphone 1 input.
I am trying to plug my guitar into Instrument input normal and i am not getting any sound to come out....no levels or anything. I am just wondering how i plug in a real instrument to my toneport UX2 and get sound to come out. I am also wondering what i can do to be able to get all of the inputs to communicate with my computer.
Thanx
tim
Sorry I don't know the specifics, but I believe you have to select somewhere in your recording program which input you plan on using... in garageband it's in the lower right hand corner of the window after you create a track... also make sure you're up to date on all the drivers... hope this helps a little... I'm a noobie to this system as well and cannot sit down with my recording gear at the moment...
Cheers,
-Matthew
If you are re-installing the drivers, make sure to use the Line 6 driver uninstaller first. On a MAC, it's called "Line 6 driver uninstaller.app" and was loaded when the UX2 was installed. If you can't find the app, you can always do a search with the Finder. This step is essential before you re-install the drivers. Also, under the MAC's system preferences, look for the "Line 6 Audio-Midi Devices, (turn on you UX2 first) and check that the Toneport UX2 is selected in the scroll down window for the Line 6 device. Once this is done, you can check your settings in the main tabs "Inputs & Recording" and "Outputs & Monitoring". If you are new at this, then I suggest you don't worry about a DAW at this stage (i.e. Garageband, Logic 9, etc) and instead, install line 6 gearbox and select it in the scroll down window for the "Controller Mapping" in order to load the presets. Last point perhaps, when you turn on the UX2 and select it as the sound device, you will not hear any sound coming out of the speakers/headphone connected to your MAC since the UX2 essentially replaces the built-in MAC audio card. So, to hear any sound from your UX2, you will need to plug in some headphones/powered speakers to the UX2 audio out ports. Sorry if this all sounds trivial, I just don't know how much experience you've had so far. Good luck! John L.
Since you have one channel (Mic 1) working, then I think your issue is that you need to select your inputs, and you do that within Gearbox (as John suggested). You can have a max of two inputs selected at one time on the UX2, and you do that within Gearbox (kind-of top left on the Gearbox screen), not all combinations are available, but you can select Mic 1 + Instrument at the same time (for example). Whenever you want to use a different input you need to select those inputs within Gearbox, and they will be sent to whichever tracks you have armed in your recording software (DAW). Gearbox allows you to modify the tones of the two channels separately (eg adding amps, cabs and effects) so you can use guitar amps for your guitar and vocal pre-amps/amps for your vocals.

Thanks guys! I got all of the inputs showing sound now, i got POD farm and that solved it.
BUT! now i cant seem to get any sound from recording. I can hear the sound coming out of the speakers when i play my guitar, and when i push record and start playing logic seems to be recording some kind of soundwaves. Im not getting any sound to come out through the headphones jack during playback... How do i set up my Toneport interface with the cables to get sound to play when i want to hear the playback of what i just played? I am also not getting a response from the first Level meter on the left when i play my guitar through the toneport, Please Please Please Help!
ps
Thanks for helping, I am very very new to this.

Sounds like you need to set up your toneport as your sound card, so that you can monitor your recorded signal. You need to do that in the Audio Preferences tab of your computer. Essentially you disable the on-board soundcard in your computer, and your Toneport becomes your soundcard. If you set at as the "ASIO soundcard" your computer should recognise the Toneport as being plugged in (using the USB cable that came with it). For this to work, however, you'll need to plug your phones and speakers into the appropriate outputs on the Toneport and not the computer. The Toneport soundcard capabilities will be in advance of those of the onboard soundcard, especially as regards being able to monitor without any delay (useful when adding additional tracks to already-recorded tracks and getting them in-synch).
With the appropriate cables and connectors you can plug your computer speakers into the Toneport (from the "Analog Out" L & R 1/4" sockets on the back, or preferably buy yourself a nice pair of powered monitors (but plug in your monitors to the same power outlet as your computer in order to minimise the creation of a ground loop which will give you mains hum).
When you have this set-up you should be able to check that the Toneport is functioning correctly as your soundcard by trying to play from another source on your computer (such as iPlayer or Windows Media Player) - you should hear the tracks being played through the speakers and the headphones plugged in to the Toneport.
If you've already done all this, and you're hearing your iTunes ok but not your Logic, then it's probable that you need to adjust something on the output side of Logic (though I haven't used that DAW, so you'll need to see what you can do in that respect).
Good luck,
Clive
