Using M9 with Spider Valve MK1

What is the best way to use a Line6 M9 with the Spider Valve MK1 - In front of the amp or patched into the effects loop?
Where you place it depends on what effects that you are planning on using. If you plan on using the any of the Overdrive/Dist, especailly on a regular basis, put in front of the amp. Otherwise in the loop. Mods, delays, and reverb sound alot better in the loop then out front. This is just my suggestion, you should try it both ways once you have you staple of effects set to see which way is better. I use the M13 with my SV and can send my dist, auto wah, pitchglide to the front of the amp and send my reverb, delay and mods to the loop. Good Luck
The M13 is fairly expensive. Can I do the same thing with the POD HD400 to isolate the distorsions infront of the amps preamp and the effects through the amps loop?
I don't see how the M13 is fairly expensive. It's $100 more than the M9 and worth it for the extra features. Yes you would be able to send the dist to the front of the amp and the other to the back with POD HD400, as long as it has an effectsloop which I think the HD400 does. Personally I won't buy a piece a gear like that unless it has an effects loop. I don't like the all front or all back as my only options. Different effects sound better in different places. I think I'm going to sell my M13 and POD X3L to get the HD500, but I love my M13, especially with my SV HD100. I've heard that the effects in the POD HD's are just as good as in the M13 and M9 and I sure hope so. I was never impressed with the effects in the POD XT or X3's, but there is no comparing them the M pedals.
Thanks...you are very knowledgeable and have been most helpful?
Totally agree bro, it's not that expensive. Ok naysayers try this, pick four or five necessary effects and price them. The M9 or M13 has ten times the power AND effects for less than half the price! I did exactly that and ended up with the M9 compared to four or five of my fave pedals....

Hey fellas, I've been eavesdropping on this site for at least 6 months now. The posts here are interesting and informative. Some of you are really, really into it, and I'm thankful to be able to benefit from your experiences.
I've had the Mk1 (w/svpre mod) for about 8 months. It's a love/hate relationship due to the quirkiness of it. I have gigged with it about 20 times (Sonic Circus NY on facebook) with mixed results, great tones sometimes, never disastrous.
The Preamp tubes have been changed, and a Wizard speaker installed. I placed an eq in the loop and it really woke up the tone. I have a clean tone that I like(A tweaked Roxanne), but finding that creamy smooth crunch tone - think Boston - has been rough.
I was using pedals along with the floorboard, but for the last couple of gigs I'm trying to travel lighter, so it's been just the floorboard.
I would like to try using the amp just for it's pure tone and try my effects pedals again, but I don't know how to bypass the models. Would plugging into the Preamp In work? Any help would be appreciated.
Anyway, I was auditioning for a 2nd band last Saturday and midway through the tenth song the amp crapped out on me. Lights stay on, tuner works, but no sound. The speaker has about 100 hours of use, I'm checking it now. Rear panel fuse is good. The little 5 amp fuse inside is good. Are there any other fuses? If not, is it the power tubes? Again, I would be grateful for any help, thanks.
Hey welcome man. I see this is your first post, congrats. You should start your own thread and ask about this, you'll more responses. You may be better off starting it in the Spider Valve forum. I don't know how much this forum is frequented so you'll the most responses over there. I haven't had that problem with mine, it's been constistantly killer. Which is sad because I sold it and shipped it out today. I'm planning on getting a DT50 Head to go with my HD500. I'm not sure what is going on with yours, sorry man. I'm not sure what you want to do with bypassing the models and running effects, I may be able to help you with that if you can explain it better. Good Luck.
So I should start my own thread in the Spider Valve forum? Okay, thanks. And I'm sorry if I've done something wrong here.
You didn't do anything wrong! I'm only trying to help you. This forum does get as much traffic as the Spider Valve forum, the more people that get exposed to your problem the more likely you'll get an answer. Also this thread says M9 with SV, not the techincal issue that you are having. So the RIGHT people may not even look at it. I'm looking out for you man, I've been on here since 2005.
Hey bud, when I first posted, my primary thought was about the M9 when I talked about finding some good sounds. Though I never mentioned the M9, it was what caused me to post a comment.
The paragraph about my amp not working was an after thought. It turns out that it was the speaker, which was the last thing I would have thought considering that the speaker was less than three months old and I can't remember having ever had my master volume past twelve o'clock. We go through the PA at gigs.
Anyway, I appreciate your help and concern, thanks.
I sold my M13 to get the HD500. I've had it a few weeks but I haven't had much time to spend on it. I'd have to say that the effects in the HD500 are just as good as the M13. I was worried that they won't be. I've had many POD's and the effects were the weakest point in my opinion. So much so that I was leary about getting the M13, but that was proved unfounded when I finally made that jump. I mainly used the Amber push on my SV. I liked the way it stated to distort when I strummed really hard going from clean into a distorted chorus. The M13 would be better because it has an effect loop to route your dist in front of the amp and mod, reverb, and delay after the preamp. The HD500 will let you do all that and be your back up rig if the amp takes a crap on you. I'm always trying to cover all the bases with as little gear as possible.
No problem, I don't care what you post here. I was concerned about you not getting the help you needed in time, NOT to be some jerk saying you can't highjack this thread. Heck I just highjack some else's today.
Never once thought of you as a jerk.
Being in a Dance/Rock/Party band, ( http://http://www.facebook.com/pages/Corner-Shot-Band/133273740070116?sk=wall ) we cover six decades of music. So I need a clean chimey sound for songs like Play That Funky Music, Crazy LIttle Thing Called Love, Zoot Suit Riot etc... as well as saturated distortion for Comfortably Numb, Vertigo, or My Own Worst Enemy. The yellow Push works for me. Thanks.
The keyboard player in my band had an M9 laying around. I didn't know it was an M9, it was just a black stompbox laying in a corner. Last week I looked at it and from reading the discussions on this site, I asked him if I could fool around with it for a bit.
I'm hooked. I have only scratched the surface with it and have found a crunchy, creamy distortion that is alive. It can be tamed or pushed. The chorus and flange are nice too.
I cranked it a bit at rehearsal last night and the keyboard player immediately said that this was the best tone he had heard from my amp so far, and I agreed.
I have the SVPre set to yellow push and I think it sounds very good. If the HD500 has the same overdrive/distortion models, which I will check out this week, I will be picking up that or the M13 so I can route the different effects into the front and back of the amp.
Stay in the mix and in the know.
