POD HD500 KEEPS REBOOTING

MY POD HD500 keeps rebooting when I try to create a tone on my computer.  I then unplugged it and tried to do on the pod itself and same results.  SHould I return it? I just recieved it 2 days ago.

thanks!

Before you return it, you should update the associated drivers, flash memory and software for the HD500 using your computer, and when updating the flash memory, the process will as whether you want to retain your existing presets - I advise you don't.  And once the update process is complete, power the HD500 ON whilst holding down the left button on the 4 way Nav Pad to reset the global system parameters to defaults.  You will need to calibrate the expression pedal after resetting the global settings.

If the problem persists after having done this, then I would recommend that you return it for a replacement unit as it is possibly faulty.

        Re: POD HD500 KEEPS REBOOTING

Did you try the HD500 with the original firmware before updating?  Just curious - but if you did, did you notice any odd behaviour.  You may just have gone straight to the update which is also fine and shouldn't cause you any grief.

You can roll back to an older firmware version if you want to just to confirm whether the problem really is with the HD500 or whether it's a possible corrupted firmware installation issue.

The other thing you might want to look into is the stability and reliability of the power supply in your premises.  Most places are absolutely fine of course, but there can be instances where people live out in the country perhaps where sometimes power supplies from the national grid may not be quite as reliable as they might be in a city environment.   If that is a possibility for you, perhaps running your computer gear and digital gear like the HD500 from a battery backed UPS might resolve your issue BUT TBH that is an extreme measure to have to go to, and the chances are that your power supply is fine.

But for a new unit brand new out of the box I think it should pretty much just work, so if the issues persist, I'd be inclined to just take it back get the store to check it out and get a different one as necessary.

    Re: POD HD500 KEEPS REBOOTING

The last time I updated my HD, I failed to follow the final instruction on the computer screen, and the unit went into constant reboot.

I read a post here that told me to enter a maint. or setup mode. (hold a button while powering up)

Sorry, I don't remember the steps, but it allowed me to re flash the HD.

Yes - to get into Test Mode which doubles as Safe Mode, hold down the right hand button on the 4 way Nav Pad.

          Re: POD HD500 KEEPS REBOOTING

          Hi

Do you mean you were using the M13' power supply brick???

Wow - if you were, I'm really not surprised your HD500 kept rebooting, and I am surprised you still have an HD500 at all.

The HD500 was supplied with a PSU that will work anywhere in the world.  The only difference is that the supplied clip-on adapter may not work directly in your country's wall outlets if you purchased your HD500 outside your country.

The HD500 requires 9v DC at 2500mA minimum whilst the M13 requires 9v AC at 2000mA.  The M13's PSU is completely the wrong type and in any event under spec regarding the current.

Ensure you are using the PSU that was supplied with your HD500 only.

          Regards

          Nick

            Re: POD HD500 KEEPS REBOOTING

Wow....this post just saved me. I just bought a HD500 today from a shop on special, they gave me the last one they had off the floor in the shop, and they accidentally packaged it up the M13 power supply.

So, I went through the whole issue, it started rebooting after a 10 munites of playing. Looked up support for the issue, and nothing worked. I was even in the middle of a flash update refresh when it rebooted.

It seemed to get worse to the point it was rebooting as soon as the Line 6 logo came up.

Then I smelled something odd, the power supply was cooking, turned it all off, did some more searching online and found this post.

Sure enough the power supply packaged in was the 9V AC 2000mA from I expect an M13, which the shop had none left. So someone out there has an M13 running off 9V DC 2500mA, or I expect not running.

Called the shop, and they are going out of their way to replace the lot with a new unboxed unit tomorrow. *phew*

Thank you Nick for posting the PSU specs as I was able to identify the issue immediately and get this frustrating issue sorted quickly.
