Have you actually checked with Sweetwater or are you going by their Web site?   Whilst their on-line ordering system didn't seem to include a method of them shipping to me here in the UK a year or two ago, they had something I needed in stock for my Yamaha mixing desk that I couldn't source in the UK, so I emailed and got a positive response, and sure enough they did ship to the UK and very quickly.  I'm not saying this is necessarily the case with Canada, but if you haven't actually asked them, it might be worth an email to see if they will be prepared to accommodate you.  A sale is after all a sale.  I found Sweetwater very very good to deal with and very sensible.  I got the item I needed in four days which was impressive too.

Certainly well worth an email, but they may be hamstrung by their contract with Line 6. It's fairly common to have distribution restrictions so local distributors can stay in business.

Part of the problem, Nick, is that the warranty for a guitar ordered in the US is only valid in the US.  For an ordinary guitar, that isn't an enormous problem; if a component in the electronics craps out, a new pot/switch is only a few dollars, and even an entire pickup often won't break $100.  But when your dealing with what we're told is $700 dollars of electronics, that's potentially a huge cost if things go wrong and the warranty won't cover it. Which means the only way we can get a proper warranty is through a Canadian store/distributer... and that's where we're hitting a wall.

A Sweetwater rep told me that they had an agreement with Line 6 NOT to ship any JTV guitars to Canada. Go figure. I tried that route.

I've bought 3 guitars since cancelling my JTV order. I see little need for one now... even though I would really have preferred to have one in my arsenal.

Sorry that the rest of my Canadian friends are still being made to wait without any information. Just blows my mind.

    Re: Expected Release Date???

I am genuinely sorry to learn that there are problems shipping to Canada.  Doubt that Line 6 would consider missing out on Sales there, nor make any agreement of the sort with Sweetwater. With a population of 34,501,798, seems Canada has as good a sales potential as any other.

My long wait (year) has come to an end.  My 59 arrived on Monday 15th and in my opinion plays like a dream and sounds like a harp (metaphorically speaking) .  Arthritis and a lump on my left hand which interferes with the tendons make it difficult to play most guitars.

The JTV has a low action and just the right size neck for me to play comfortably. Playing her standard using the magnetic pickups was wonderful, and reassuring.  If God Forbid, the electronics for modeling etc failed, I know she is still a first rate guitar.

If any one is interested, I will put more stuff on a new thread/group later on.

My sincerest thanks go to Rich, who has been a true friend both personally and on these Forums etc.  He has put up with a lot of stick, which he did NOT deserve.  He is a craftsman, a luthier, not a scapegoat for others to kick about as they see fit.

With all my heart I hope that when your guitars arrive, you will get the same amount of joy as I am experiencing now.  Hang on in there - it really is worth the wait.

    Peace be to you all.

    Re: Expected Release Date???

I too am sorry there is a shipping/distribution problem for Canadians.  Not that this will help anyone feel better, but my "regular" method of income is in retail Internet sales of collectible statues and action figures.  This may sound lame or even childish to some if they don't understand the business I'm in.

However, the point of me mentioning this - is because I KNOW from personal experience that there are territories some products can not be shipped to in MY business situation, but I've worked with customers in those areas to come up with creative solutions that make all involved happy.

One suggestions if it has not already been mentioned on this extremely long thread is...

    1. Buy it yourself within the USA borders if that is a reasonable driving distance.
    2. Or have some other person you might know and certainly TRUST to buy the guitar you want within the USA and ship it to you in Canada if able to be driven to your location or meet half-way, etc.
    3. IF POSSIBLE for those concerned...Set up by leasing a UPS or FEDEX drop box at one of their shipping stores.  ALL of those types of stores are franchises and may have different rules regarding non-US customers.  Why not even try an INDEPENDENT business that offers UPS delivery receipt.  PLUS they must also offer SHIPPING to your physical address in Canada.
    4. THESE OPTIONS DO WORK!!  Please don't blow this suggestion off without doing at least minimal investigation if you REALLY WANT a new JTV guitar.

Here's WHY this works, once the item is bought by you or someone here inside the US borders, it is NO LONGER UNDER any distribution or shipping regulations

----(being SPECIFIC ABOUT JTV GUITARS ONLY HERE so NO to any "Know-It-All" types on here.  I KNOW what I'm talking about and all the legalities involved)---

ANYWAY back to what I was typing...ANYONE can ship a JTV guitar to ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD.  I would ALSO recommend based on the price Canadians get ripped off for simply being in Canada by the customs regulations.  DO NOT use UPS or FEDEX if possible for shipping FROM the USA into Canada.  UPS charges an insanely high price as does FEDEX.

Instead ship the guitar that was bought or shipped within the USA by the US POSTAL SERVICE to Canada even if you want to pay for NEXT DAY, this is STILL CHEAPER than the other ways.  PACK it into a SHIPPING CARTON that will contain the Line 6 printed shipping box the guitar came in.  You WILL want this extra level of protection - believe me on this point!!

Then just get a postal label, PLUS an Insurance form, PLUS (if separate) a USPS CUSTOMS DECLARATION FORM.  DO NOT bother with insuring the item for more than $30.00 unless you think it might get LOST by the USPS or the Canadian postal service.  The reason for this is that HIGH VALUE items get held up in transit for "inspection" and you REALLY DO NOT WANT some USPS or Canadian postal employee opening up your packing box or possibly touching your new guitar.

The contents of the OUTER shipping carton should be as plain as possible with nothing more than a FRAGILE label or even hand written IN RED MARKER on the outer shipping container.  The USPS charges by WEIGHT ONLY as does the Canadian Post.  This will help very much in getting your guitar from the USA to your location in Canada.

I hope this has helped some of you who have waited so long for a truly terrific guitar whatever the model is.

    Take care,

    Neal

    Re: Expected Release Date???

Okay - I understand what was written here, but in regards to my previous posting...You simply ship the guitar back to your contact in the USA and THAT will resolve ANY Warranty situation if one should arise.  Just make certain that you register the guitar to the name and address within the USA.

Is this a pain in the arse - YES, but how badly do you hate waiting, continuing to wait, or do not wish to go an extra mile to get the guitar you want into your hands??

    It's that simple guys!!

    Take care again,

    Neal

Yes - of course.  That's Line 6's warranty policy for all their products.  I was really highlighting that where some US suppliers may not explicitly state one way or another on their Web sites whether they will ship to another country as Sweetwater's site didn't say that they would ship to the UK when I needed something from them.  There was apparently no way for me to pay for the goods by credit card because all delivery addresses had to be in the US when I followed the on-line ordering process, however an email resulted in a positive outcome for me.   But yes - if the guitar were to develop a fault in the warranty period the purchaser would have to return it at their expense to a service centre in the US..

Well said Steve.  I totally agree with your sentiments.

Congratulations on your new guitar.  I got my 59 in June - lovely guitar :-)   I bought my second JTV - an 89 about three weeks ago - I like Ibanez RG models too and the 89 almost out RG's an Ibanez RG with the only thing missing being the Floyd-Rose licensed trem

Sorry, Neil ... paying shipping back and forth to get warrenty work done is not simple.

The simple solution is for Line 6 to get their act in gear and start shipping to Canada.  Some of us have put deposits down and going by what Rich told us a while ago, they should have been delivered by now.  And, yes, on a weekly basis I am talking to my dealer and according to them, the Line 6 distributor has no idea when they will be arriving.

    The silence is really deafening!?!

    Cheers,

I have been giving you the information I can. I will again tell you that it has to do with the complicated logistics with how we do business in Canada. Imagine if you were in Turkey. You can't buy our gear there.

That said, enough guitars were shipped to our Canadian distributor to probably cover all the back orders a few days ago. I am kinda surprised that no one from Canada is posting about getting their guitars. I sent an email to my guy and will let you know what I find out.

Glad to hear they are on their way, Rich. If I get the opportunity today I'll check in with Long & McQuade and see if they can get the latest scoop from the distributer.  If it was only a few days ago, it could still be at the border (I don't know how well you guys have set yourselves up to get stuff through customs quickly) or might be still at or just leaving the distributer, which would be why we haven't seen them yet. There's a chance they'd be in hands this week, though more likely next.

I don't mean to be a stick in the mud, here, but you keep repeating that there are "complicated logistics" in how you do business in Canada... and then you continue to be totally silent on what that actually means. What is so complicated? And why is everything such a big secret? Or do you just mean "inconvenient"?

Seriously. I think us Canadians would like to have a better understanding of what--exactly--the problem is, so we can figure out what to do about this, and write letters to our Members of Parliament, if necessary. Since you won't give any details about why it is so difficult to get guitars across our border, it really suggests that this is more of a Line 6 policy issue and not so much a Canada/USA relations issue. I'd like more information, as I've requested continually for months.

We might as well live in Turkey, since we are being treated like Turkeys.

    Gobble, gobble.

    ---------------------------------------------

Thanks for that opening, Rich. I tried to restrain myself from pouncing, but this feels much more therapeutic. My apologies to anyone from Turkey, who I may have offended. If the guitars actually show up in Canada over the next couple of weeks, I will happily come back here and offer my thanksgivings and try to let bygones by bygones.

In the meantime, I would still like an explanation of these mysterious complications where Canada is concerned.
