POD HD500 Customtones Compatibility?

Hello,

I just bought the Line 6 POD HD500, and have been exploring the Customtones.com library.

I have downloaded several POD HD500 files and they work perfectly. However, I see plenty of custom tones that I'd like to use, but they are made for other POD devices (most commonly the PODxt Live) and when I try to download them, Windows does not recognize the file extention (.l6t).

Is there a way to convert them to the .h5e format so that the Line 6 POD HD500 Edit software can recognize it? Or is there some other way to open these files and move them for use to the HD500 itself? This is one of my favorite features of the product so far, and I'd like to not have to go buy a PODxt Live to be able to use the majority of the custom tones.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The HD500 is only compatible with the .h5e tones. There's no way to really convert the XT tones to the HD format. The two devices are operating on completely different architectures.

Also, the XT has been around for about 10 years now, compared to the 1 year for the HD500, so it's not surprising there's a lot more tones available for the XT at the moment.

And I think you'd be dissapointed with the outcome of it, the PODHD isn't just an upgrade it's something completly new.

You could search the internet and magazines like Total Guitar to see how to recreate your favorite artists sound.

Or request a sound and maybe someone will try to achieve it and give it to you.

You could download Line 6 Edit from the Downloads page and load up the XT tones in your PC. That will show you what effects make up the tone. You could then use this information to create your own tone using HD500 Edit. It won't be the same, but it might give you some ideas.

    Hey dukeoforegon,

I agree with ozbadman's idea of loading the tones into either Line 6 Edit or the GearBox application so that you can see which models and settings are being used. At the same time you could run HD500 Edit and try and recreate the presets from scratch by copying the settings and using similar amp and FX models.

    Re: POD HD500 Customtones Compatibility?

Not to threadjack here but I can understand why HD500 Edit can't use patches made for xt's or x3's; totally different devices.  What bugs me is I can't open use HD500 Edit to open tones that were made for the HD400 or HD300.  I can understand where HD300 or HD400 couldn't run patches made for the HD500 since they aren't made to be as flexible but the 500 seems like it should be flexible enough to be able to run stuff for 300's and 400's and that I when I search for compattible tones they should all show up on customtone.com.

For that matter, it might be nice to have some sort of a converter tool that would match the settings from older patches into newer ones for us so we wouldn't have to have both programs installed and manually set everything up.
