Why re-answer a question that has been answered?

Just a curiosity more than anything else but I have noticed a LOT of questions that have been sufficiently answered by one member will be answered again by someone else basically saying the same exact thing?

I hate to say it but is almost ALWAYS these "pro" members. Is it that they don't bother to read and see if the question was answered? Is it because they like to type? Do they think that their answers are more eloquently phrased? Is it more due to the fact that some amazing and powerful award is given to the resident bigshots for getting the green "answered" points?

I just think it is a bit of a comedy when ever I see it done.

I understand what you mean but, keep in mind that sometimes that way an answer is worded may make a difference in its perception.  The idea is to "stir the pot", get the thoughts and assistance of others.  Yeah sometime you will get the same exact answer to a question but, that in itself offers validation to the answer.  This is a community I see no problem with multiple responses.

I can't say I've noticed it too much myself, really. I have seen simultaneous answer by different people or answers come a short time after another. I know sometimes personally, I'll start typing an answer, get distracted with something else, and then come back and finish my answer. In the meantime there might be a number of people who chimed in. Other than that, I don't see repeats. I see clarifications on certain things. A lot of the questions people ask actually have multi-faceted answers, so the first response may have unintentionally overlooked something.

Not sure what "amazing and powerful award" you are refering to...But if you say it is a fact, then it must be so...Besides, I am a points ho anyway, but phil is a bigger ho than me... :-)

What I have noticed is that sometimes....the same questions posted by some that do not bother to see if the same question has been asked before....just sayin'...

Re: Why re-answer a question that has been answered?

You must also remember that sometimes two or more people might be answering the same question simultaneously.  I have often seen a new question and compiled what I consider to be a full and thorough answer, only to find that one or two other people have also answered the question saying more or less the same thing that I have said, but have simply pressed add reply a bit quicker than I have.  I've done the same thing myself and beaten someone else to the post - unintentionally.  Sometimes, some of us may joke about being quicker or slower or whatever, but so what?

If I see a question that has been answered and there's nothing I can add, then I leave it alone.  If I see a question that has been answered but I think I may have something useful to add, then I'll possibly add a +1 and a further comment.

It's the way the forums work.  For me it's not about points or being a 'big shot'.  I'm too old and ugly to bother about nonsense like that.  I don't believe for most regulars that it's about points or having to prove anything either.

Seriously I don't see the problem as long as people who are asking for help get it.

I've noticed you seem to be fairly new around here in terms of actually contributing much although you've been registered for nearly two years but that you've been replying usefully several times recently to users.  Good on you for getting involved.  The more the merrier.

No-one is trying to steal anyone's thunder or intentionally repeat the same thing in different terms - unless it's needed perhaps (remember that not everyone who comes to these forums necessarily speaks or understands English as their first language and that it is sometimes an effort for them to even try to get their question across clearly in English, so it can sometimes help them when replying in English to perhaps put something over in clearer terms).

And as has already been mentioned it sometimes helps if a number of people contribute to discussions whilst respecting the views and opinions of others without feeling the need to take a needless swipe at those contributors who do spend a lot of time here on their own time.

Keep up your helpful contributions.  People will appreciate your help just as much as they appreciate any help offered by anyone else.  I'm happy to learn from your expertise just as much as I'm happy to learn form anyone else's expertise.

    Regards

    Nick

        Hi Mark

Yeah - the forums are definitely different to those offered by other manufacturers and they're a universe away from some of the UseNet forums in terms of relevance, content and attitude (which is all good BTW LOL).

People sometimes get a bit frustrated and sometimes with justification I guess - but obviously not always.

I think where possible it's best to try and imagine the person's actually sitting in the room with me and having a proper face to face chat rather than reacting to what might look like something inflamatory when in fact it's literally a missed communication because we're working in a purely text based medium here.

It's sometimes good thereapy to type out a reply and then to look at that reply in context and try to see where the person you're replying to might be coming from and then to just delete the reply if it's going to unnecessarily inflame a situation even further.

In general, forum members rub along very well though and that is one of the main reasons I participate other than trying to balance the scales a bit for everything I've ever picked up from other people.

i think people need to play more.  i mean really, is this what keeps you up at night?  i see these members w/thousands of posts and find myself wondering if they actually play.  that said, i'm thankful for them because they've been very helpful time and again.  it's a huge community and i think "semi-duplicate" posts are bound to happen for various reasons.  don't sweat the small stuff folks.
