HD100 Display issue

I have received my Line 6 SpiderValve HD100 MKII and the display is showing jumbled nonsense. Where as before (yesterday, when I recieved it and powered it up for the first time) I could see and cycle thru the presets just fine. Is this something that has happened to anyone else?
p.s. I do not yet own a shortboard so I am unable to do an update. I also have done a factory reset w/ no results.
Thanks
do you have a midi interface on your PC? as you can use that to update a Spider Valve MKII, instead of using an FBV MKII.
you could then make sure you're on the latest flash memory version, and even if you are, you can reinstall the latest version to see if that fixes your issue (as it can sometimes resolve strange issues).
Let us know how you get on

Hey Rowbi,
Thanks for your great idea! Unfortunately, I don't have a midi interface neither on my computer nor my FireStudio Mobile interface. Only thing close to that is on my firestudio and it is a "midi - s/pdif" and it is a 9 pin as opposed to the normal 5 pin. I haven't had many dealings with midi but from a quick google search I am guessing that the two are not compatible. But then again I am totally guessing and could be absolutely wrong! ![]()
Huh. I should think that a factory reset would do the trick...
Aside from the LCD, are there any problems with the amp's functionality? S/PDIF is very different from MIDI by the way. S/PDIF transmits a digital audio signal, whereas MIDI transmits data in the form of control messages/commands. Perhaps you could borrow someone's FBV MkII or MIDI interface? If not, maybe Guitar Center can do the update for you? At any rate, I'd keep that warranty documentation handy. If the 2.0 firmware update doesn't do it, you'll probably have to get the amp serviced or exchanged.
Good luck.
Hey Samzee,
Those were my thoughts exactly! If the unit was working properly when I first got it, then I was sure that a reset would have fixed it.
I am guessing that i did the reset correctly. According to the Line 6 Device Factory Reset Procedures - "Spider I, II, III, IV, Micro, and Valve Series: Hold down the A (or clean) button as you turn on the power and hold the button for 5-8 seconds." I did that. If there are any other steps that are being displayed beyond that, like "press this button to confirm", I can't see them. >.<
Other than that, the amps functionality is fine. I can still manually use the knobs to manipulate the tone and such, but its all for not if I can't edit/change banks and play around...
As for borrowing a friends board, I don't know anyone in town that has one and the closest Guitar Center is about 3 hours away...
Thanks, Samzee for all of your great ideas, but it seems I'm still stuck in the same frustrating position. I might end up just sending it back for an exchange (if I can't find a fix for it), since I'm still in my 30 day return window.
Hi Casey
It would seem to me that your amp has a hardware fault with the LCD module - it sounds like how LCD displays perform when there's a loose contact or dry solder joint.
If you have just received it, report it to your supplier and get them to send you an exchange unit or take it/send it to your nearest Line 6 Authorised service Centre to be checked and repaired as necessary.
The nine pin MIDI/S/PDIF interface socket on your FireStudio should probably have a supplied breakout cable with it which breaks out to two standard MIDI In/MIDI Out connections plus one for S/PDIF. If you didn't get this or have lost it then you are stuck and as Samzee says you'll need an FBV MkII pedal board or MIDI interface to update the amp's firmware.
Nick
Hey Nick,
As you can imagine, I have been tearing my entire house up trying to find that breakout cable. Finally, after hours and hours of searching I found it underneath the fridge... I have kids... >.< But, alas I have no midi cable and will have to wait until Tuesday to get one.
I want to thank each one of you for your help and support. After updating on Tuesday, if the issue isn't resolved, I will be returning it for an exchange.
Thanks again!
Casey
Pleasure's ours. I'm glad to hear that you're making progress. Let let us know how it goes!
Under the fridge???? What kind of house do you run there? No wonder you couldn't find it! Most people I know keep that kind of stuff in an old biscuit tin under the sink ![]()
Got the cables, hooked them up and started monkey. Then I got the "downloading..." for an hour and now, nothing. An enormous paper weight. I hate life...
anyway to get firmware back on there now that it just seems to be gone?
