monitoring HD500 with KRK Rokit 8's

I am about to pick up a set of KRK Rokit 8's for monitoring in my home studio and just wanted to confirm that I can connect the HD500 directly to the Rokit 8's either by 1/4" or XLR for monitoring?
Thanks for your help! ![]()

Yes. Both work but the output level of HD's XLR is very low (mic level?) so 1/4" works best when set to line level.
Excellent, thanks so much!
If I use the quarter inch outs should set the amp /line switch to line?
Thanks,
Derek

That's what I do when I use my KRK Rokit 6 monitors and it works well.

Great, thanks Nick!
Hi Nick,
One other question....when using using the 1/4" out of the HD500 into the Rokit 1/4" in (with the amp/line switch set to line) what do you tend to set the "HF level" and "Volume" at on the monitor? The reason I am asking is that I just got the Rokit 8's today and haven't had time to really test them out but I plugged in one and the volume wasn't that loud......using the full AC30TB with the amp volume at 85%, the drive around 35% and the master volume at 100%.
I know the AC30 isnt as loud as say the JCM800 but I still expected it to be louder. Also, I have the mixer volumes at zero.....do you normally jack those up when outputting this way?
Thanks,
Derek
I tend to set the HF level at about 50% and the same with the Volume. To be honest I use a standard guitar amp most of the time or the DT-50 or now the DT-25, but occasionally I do use the KRK's direct. I felt that the XLR outs on the POD HD500 were a little bit quiet but with the 1/4" outs I haven't experienced any issues with volume. No I don't jack up the mixer levels. But it has to be said whan I use these monitors I'm not really intending blowing the tiles off the roof
That said though they do make quite a healthy row if I want them to
Great, thanks Nick! :)
What kind of cables are you using to connect the monitors?
I have an HD500, and I just ordered some Rokit 8's. The problem is the 1/4" outs on the HD500 are unbalanced where as the 1/4 ins on the KRK's are balanced...can you just run a regular TS cable?
I think I found a good solution...I'll get some 1/4 to RCA adapters, they're cheap and then I can use some of the cables I already have.
I realize this is an old post, but I just picked up a pair of Rokit 8s and connected them using normal 1/4" cables. The Rokits 1/4" inputs are actually balanced/unbalanced (says it in the manual) so just plug and play. No adapters needed.
And they work great btw. They can get VERY loud, so for those who are just buying them, I highly suggest you start with the speakers' volume knobs turned down and go from there.
Just to let you know, I'm another happy user with KRK Rokit 8's (newer, rounded front model). ![]()
I run them with their volume up all the way (@ 6dB) and the HF adjust at 0 dB and then use my FP10's (Firewire I/F) output to control the volume.
Would you use a Rokit 8 as a Stage Monitor with POD or only in the Studio with your POD?
Stay in the mix and in the know.
