M13 or HD500?

hello everyone! i'm still pretty confused about which one will i buy. i play in a band and i just want to know which more accesible to use and at the same time which has better features too. acutally as of now i still dont get it how those amp modeling works. is amp modeling  useful for me in general? i just want to know more about this great gadget's comparison.

 

i've been reading these threads on the forums the whole time and i still dont get it

 

it would be so much better if you guys will gonna share me your inputs about it and help me decide which of this gadgets will i buy.

    You find it helpful.  Shortly after posting the question an M13 came up on Craigslist locally and I had to jump on it.  If I could I'd go cable into my Dr Z or one channel non reverb JCM 800 but I play in top40 dance bands so I do need effects.  Going with the less is best approach, the lesser amount of pedal connections my signal runs through the better.  However there will be in the least echo or reverb in 90% of my playing situations so I'm rarely using true bypass at gigs.  Which means I there's always some type of buffer/dsp in the signal path.  And for live gigs with a full band I don't hear the subtle nuiances of boutique effects.  Maybe at home or in the studio but not so much with a full band, different horses for different courses IMHO.  Back to the point so if I'm going through a dsp the POD HD seems to be better choice for me because I'm still spending a lot of time configureing the M13 and if you bypass the amp and cab blocks in the POD HD it would be similar to the M13, not exactly but my primary concern/use is live giging.  Don't get me wrong the M13 with the new software upgrade is very usable but I think it would in interesting to have amp simulations in place of dirt pedals and you have more slots/options on the POD HD as opposed to the 4 on the M13.  hope this helps as either choice is a winner.

      ow yeah, but when it comes accesibilty of tweaking stuff during your live performance and mixing your presets... which is easier? m13 or pod hd500?

        As far as tweaking on the fly, the M13 wins hands-down, in my opinion. I'm not sure I know what you mean by "mixing your presets".

          when it comes to accesibility wise m13 wins.

           

          wait, i still dont get it how amp modeling really works and how really important it is.

          can you gimme some aspects that HD500 has that the m13 doesnt have besides the 8 fx together.

            Well, if you absolutely have no experience with amp modeling, and you don't think you need it, the M13 might be a better choice. This article from Wikipedia gives a good overview of what it is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amplifier_modeling  It basically allows you to get the sound of a certain amplifier without actually using one. This can be particularly useful if you're in a situation where volume is an issue.

             

            As far as what the HD500 has that the M13 doens't, it does have an on-board expression pedal, which means you can use effects like wahs, pitch glide, and volume right out of the box without having to get an external pedal. The HD500 also allows you to save a total of 256 presets, whereas on the M13 you only have 48 scenes.

             

            It really depends on how you want to use the product. If you don't make many changes on the fly, the HD500 probably has the edge. However, if you do, and you want to incorporate something with other existing effects, I think the M13 comes out on top. As far as the abililty to have 8 simultaneous effects, it is nice, but honestly, I rarely use the 4 simultaneous effects on the M13.

              i was reading lately about amp modeling. i guess it's pretty a big help on gigs which you need to maintain your sound for a particular song. and about the features i was pretty convinced with HD500 and there's a lot that i can do with it like recording your stuff. i guess HD500 counts now.

               

              hey i got a quick question: when you're about to apply the amp mod with the amp, what settings will i do with the amps 1st? all in 12 o'clock(gain, bass, mid, treble)?

               

              anyway thanks for the info man, that really help me a lot!
