Yet another Variax 300 can't be recognized by Workbench thread

I've had my 300 for several years, but just got Workbench today. I've read through about 5+ threads on the same topic and I cannot get this to work. The workbench USB interface is 'green' and is seen by Monkey...it can update and reinstall the firmware, etc. However, workbench cannot communicate with the 300, it just blinks red on that side of the interface. I have the XPS and I'm running on XPS rather than battery power. I also have tried moving the workbench interface to every USB port on my Mac Mini with no luck. I tried 3-4 different Ethernet cables in addition to the cable supplied with the workbench interface. No luck.
I notice that when I disconnect and reconnect the TRS connector from the XPS to the 300, briefly the workbench interface goes green, then blinking red again (on the Variax side). I also notice that if I barely insert the TRS connector into the 300, I can get the green light on the Variax side of the workbench interface to stay green. But, when I launch Workbench in this state, it can't connect. Inserting the TRS connector all the way into the Variax causes the light on the Variax side of the workbench interface to briefly show green, then blink red. This would lead me to believe that there is some signal going between the Variax 300 and the workbench interface...at least in one direction.
I have looked at all the pins on the workbench interface and the guitar...all 'look' good. Nothing bent..no pins are too low to make contact.
Shy of replacing the internals and guts of the 300 or the Workbench interface, anything else I should be trying? I know someone else had luck on ordering a new connector assembly for the 300. I don't see that available in the store. Any other ideas?

What you're doing is sorta like fishin' for a half day with the same worm... [you may not get too many bites with a stale worm].
There have been about 3,742+ threads on this subject, and some of them have been very well answered by either Line6Expert or Line6CustomerSupport Members.
I suggest you keep checking the archives. I'm afraid I can't help you, other than to suggest you manually add the device using the Connected Dvices pane on the left of the screen. As soom as you can get your interface working, I would reflash everything...
Good luck,

Understood. I've tried everything I've read so far, going back 2 years in the threads. After validating that I cannot see the Variax on 2 other computers (another Mac and a Windows laptop), I conclude it has to be bad hardware. I'm going to take it in to the local authorized repair shop to see what the next step is.
i would advise you to try a network cable on the workbench interface... mine didn't work with the supplied cable for some reason.... was easy enough to use a cat5 network cable and it worked like a charm.
Thanks. I did try 4 known working Cat5 straight-through RJ45 cables, and no luck. My guess is I either have a bad Workbench USB interface or something is broken inside the Variax on the digital interface side of things. I did a cursory check to make sure the digital RJ45 interface on the variax didn't have any of the internal connectors loose, but didn't want to go as far as to take all the guts out and get in over my head.
Is the Variax working correctly with the exception of the USB interface connection? If the VDI cable is working properly with, say, your X3 or XTLive, then odds are that the guitar boards and VDI jack are fine...
If you have tried the archives to no avail, then Zap's advice, with no better result, then you may have a defective unit. In any event, there are much more knowledgeable people than me who will come out of the woodwork, I am sure...
Good luck.

Also... I forgot to ask you the obvious: what kind of computer and OS are you using?

Everything else is working well on the variax. I don't have any other way of testing that the VDI works in any other way as I don't have at any other Line6 hardware that accepts that connection. My main system is a Mac Mini running OS X 10.7.1. The other Mac is a MacBook Pro running 10.6.7 Snow Leopard. The windows box is a gateway laptop running XP. I can't get it to work on any of these. So, currently taking its either a bad part on the variax itself or the workbench USB interface.
Have you followed the official Line 6 instructions for migratimg to OS X 10.7.1? There should be detailed instructions under one of the document tabs at the top or side of the page...

I give up, Line 6! Qhat have you done with the doc on the Lion fix???
I just went looking for a link for you... It was not that long ago that 'There's a Vid for that" baanner was trumpeting an OS X 10.7.x "fix". Now, I can't find it anywhere! Why such a bunch of brilliant minds tolerate suxh an abysmal info archive systtem is beyond me!

[PS: baanner is a spelling I learned from the Great, All-Knowing One. I think he spends a lot of time with the sheep that graze on the mountaintop!]
I haven't followed the directions aside from a brand new first time install of the newest Line6 Monkey and Variax Workbench sw on all 3 systems. Prior to 2 days ago, I didn't have any way to connect the variax to any of the systems. I did ensure on the Macs that I had the 7.1.0 USB driver...I did see someone else mention that. But I only have 1 system running Lion. Another is running Snow Leopard and another is running an up-to-date-as-you-can-get XP 32-bit. I can't get it to work on any of them.
I think you're going to have to pick one platform and work through the installation protocal suggested by Line 6 before you have any luck. After all, it's only a MONKEY you're dealing with, for Pete's sake! Don't confuse the little feller!

Lions, leopards, sheep, monkeys.........all on a workbench......... what the he** is going on on that mountaintop?
(8>*}... I fear his Eminence has been side-tracked by the Sacred Sheep of the Soldering Seer!
[... but that's just a wild guess!]
