Variax 500: PU selection & Factory Reset

Hey all!
I've owned a Variax 500 for many years and have used it numerous times. The neck and nut on it are horrible and it needs work, but that's pretty common. I can deal with that for now though. I also have the Workbench software which as been invaluable!
You're going to think this is nuts, but I JUST TODAY actually read the manual for the Variax because I could never understand how to do deal with the pickup configurations. I guess I never realized that the factory settings for the Lester, Spank, etc... actually used the Pickup switch like a real guitar would, and that there were different models mixed in on the unused positions! When I would edit something with Workbench, it dawned on me that I had to pick say the bridge or neck PU of a guitar, otherwise it would load both at once. I just figured that you had to pick one or the other since there was no "toggle" switch.
That appears to be the case, but I don't know for sure! That's why I'm asking! I need to reset my Variax back to factory, but I'm not sure how to. From there I'd be able to load Workbench to see what was going on. I guess that for instance on a Les Paul, if I were building one from scratch, PU Selector #1 would be the bridge, #3 would be both, and #5 would be the neck. Right? There is no other way to do it right? The manual shows me what the "stock" configs are, but it would nice to be able to just do a factory reset and tweak from there.
Thanks!
J
To do a factory reset, you must connect your variax to the computer and rub the line 6 monkey.Select to reinstal the flash memory and to reinstal the preset sounds..
About the pickups, you can set them as you really like, and to the selector also. For example you build a les paul from scratch, set the bridge to number 1, neck-bridge number 2 and neck number 4, or whatever.
Those are the benefits of line 6.FREEDOM!!
Thanks Arislaf... that did the trick!
Anytime mate!
