Loud hum with Direct out and Line out (to amp)

Hi, i've been really satisfied with all of the sounds and stuff on the x3 Live, but I recently ran into a problem. For the first time, i tried a direct out xlr to the PA and line out to an amp. As soon as I hooked up the instrument cable from the x3 to amp (the xlr was already hooked up), i got a LOUD hum/buzz through the PA and the amp. If I unplug the the xlr or the amp from the x3, then the humming stops immediately. I tried flipping the ground lift swich to no success. Is this a hardware fail? I guess it's not absolutely necessary to fix (I can just mic the amp, or do just direct outs), but it'd be nice to see if there was something i could do other than take it in for service, it's just not worth it to me anymore.
Thanks,
JR
What you are experiencing is known as a ground loop, which can be tricky to deal with. I would suggest you research more about ground loops, and see how that applies to your setup. I have included a link below that should explain the basics of ground loops as well as offer some things to try:
