Vyzex Pocket POD starts up but shuts down immediately.

Hi!
I have had a problem with Vyzex Pocket POD a few days now. It all seamed to start when I pressed Yes on the "Select midi ports" box during the first start up after re-installing windows. I just pressed OK and didn't think much of it. Cant remember now if the pod was connected or not when it happened. I'm quite sure it was though. After this the program starts up and it shows the splash screen (the big Line 6 one with all the company names) and then it shuts down immediately. The "Select midi ports" box never shows up again either when the pod is connected (naturally I suppose since its already configured).
I've gone through all the steps in the troubleshooter PDF and it still doesn't work (I could have missed something here though). I've also uninstalled and reinstalled it.
I'm running Win Xp SP3 on a Ferrari 3000 standard Laptop.
Any suggestions?
Hi Tom,
Please check your private messages - I have a patch file to send you that should fix this.
Cheers,
Tony
I am having the same problem, it's like Vyzex won't even fully start up. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have the same problem.
Fujitsu Laptop

Thanks a lot.
I have the same problem.
Can you send me the patch?.
Thanks.
I have the same problem.
Can you send me the patch, please?.
Thanks.
Hi Genas,
As my last post to this thread (right before your three repeated requests) says: The latest version of the program includes the patch. Are you using version 1.07 of the program? It includes the fix contained in the old patch for the earlier version.
What is your specific problem if you are running v1.07? Can you please explain any error messages you get?
Thanks.
Tony
hello !
i got the same problem, the vyzex pocket pod starts up but shuts down !
i need help please !
thanks
Hi Echo,
All the answers to the problem are already posted here - IF your problem is the PocketPOD hardware turning on and off again. Is your problem that the Vyzex editor software is shutting down unexpectedly when you run it?
If the software is closing unexpectedly, please let us know what operating system you are running and if the PocketPOD is running properly when this happens.
Tony
CAN YOU SEND ME THE PATCH FILE I HAVE THE SAME REBOOTING PROBLEM...Thank you Tony !!!
Vorp,
Read down to the bottom of this thread. There's your answer. There is no patch anymore - v1.17 of the editor includes the fix that the old version needed as a patch.
Next, your issue is entirely to do with your USB port hardware. Read my 'correct answer' post from a few years back for advice on what to do to deal with it.
Cheers,
Tony
I also have this problem on Win XP SP3... a little help please? ![]()
check those PMs...
Hello, I'm having the same issue on my laptop, running Win Xp SP3. Any help would be great.
Thanks in advance
I have a similar prob and its driving me mad, I connect the pocket pod to vyzex, it transfers ok and the edit screen appears and the tones and banks are working fine, and I can edit on the computer, but after about 10 secs or so the pocket pod reboots thus leaving vyzex looking (and not finding) the pocket pod again. Does this every time, and it works ok on my laptop but not the comp in my studio where I intend to use it.
Same prob
Vyzex editor hang off after software boot screen.
XP Sp3 on standard Desktop Pc.
There has to be a solution for this problem as far as I'm concerned, there is no solution anywhere on the net, believe me I have tried.
It works fine on my vista laptop, and is a great piece of kit (when it works).
Hi Molly,
The problem you describe is actually different than the one this thread is about. This thread is about the issue that crops up on occasional Windows systems where the program crashes and closes on startup. When a user has this problem, I private message them with an unreleased patch to the program that resolves this issue.
In your case, your USB MIDI port is unreliable and keeps popping in and out while the program continues to run. This situation is hardware related and can only be addressed by using a different USB port on your computer to connect to. Have you tried every one on your machine, and if so do they all drop out during editing?
If the answer to this question is yes, then you need to try a USB port expander card on your computer - If it's a desktop computer then this is probably a PCI card, while if your computer is a laptop then it hopefully has a laptop card expander slot that you can fill with a compatible USB port expander.
Please let us know how it goes.
Tony
HI.
I found a little non definitive solution at the problem.
1) Go the installation folder and serach for Win32 Folder (usually C:Program\Psicraft\Vyzex Pocketpod\Win32).
2) Search for MQEditPsiCraft.dll and make a a back up of file.
3) Delete MQEditPsiCraft.dll.
4) Open Vyzez Editor After software star appear a window with this message : Error the following Editor Control not Found - C:program....MQEditPsiCraft.Dll
Don't Click OK on this window and ignore message .Simple leave this window on a corner of Desktop
5) Use Vizez Editor normally for editing or store Tones.
This is not a solution but with this little"fix" you can able to use Vizex. It Work fine for me till Line 6 fix definitely the prob.
I think this prob was caused by graphic shell for XPSp3 Mod themes.
Vizex work fine on another Pc with another copy of WinXP sp3 and light theme modification and on my Acer Notebook with Windows 7 Rc1.
Hi Granny,
Thanks for the very unconventional work around... You are correct that the problem varies between systems and is based on the graphics mods applied to the host operating system. The patch we are making available on an unofficial private link basis addresses this directly by using a newer version of the Microsoft GDI+ library.
There is an official update to Vyzex PocketPOD in the works right now that resolves the issue discussed here and brings a number of other improvements to users of PocketPOD. For those who require the patch sooner (remember the symptom is that the program shuts down on launch, not MIDI port troubles), please private message me with your email address and I will contact you with download details.
Once again for the record, missing or intermittent USB MIDI Ports are separate OS Driver and computer hardware issues that are not resolved via patches or updates to the editor software. If the PocketPOD USB MIDI port does not show up on your XP or Vista computer, then you should consult the posted Troubleshooting.pdf from the 'Documents' section of this forum for solutions. If your USB MIDI port is intermittent when connected to PocketPOD, the only solution is to use another port and if there are no others on your computer you need to expand the number of ports by installing a separate USB MIDI port card and using one of these ports.

If you could flag one of my answers as 'correct' that would be nice... Otherwise we moderators have to flag the thread as 'asssumed answered'. Thanks.

Otherwise you can follow my little guide post some pages back. It working fine for me but absolutely is NOT a solution.
I hope for Line6 new bugfix Vizex version at soon.
if you want try this is the procedure:
1) Go the installation folder and serach for Win32 Folder (usually C:Program\Psicraft\Vyzex Pocketpod\Win32).
2) Search for MQEditPsiCraft.dll and make a a back up of file.
3) Delete MQEditPsiCraft.dll.

Tony
Here's a note for anyone reading this thread after July 17, 2009: Vyzex PocketPOD v1.17 includes the patch I provided to these users plus a redesigned GUI and a number of significant improvements to the workflow.
If you are using v1.05 of the Vyzex PocketPOD editor, it is time to upgrade: The download is available from http://line6.com/software/ now!
Cheers,
Tony
Tony, thanks for reply, yes it happens on every one of my usb slots,
Yeah same problem here too. Crash on start up.
If you could send me one please, I would be grateful
I re-install my Pocket POD today with the file present in the download section and I have the same trouble.
Crash on startup.
I have the same problem.
Can you send me the patch?.
Thanks.
I'm use Vizex 1.17 and when i sincronous the pocket POD and finish it, my POD reboot or shut down immediately. Then i don't set any preset in pocket pod by this bug.
Your problem is not a bug in Vyzex Pocket POD. Your PC's USB connection is intermittent which is why your PocketPOD shuts down. Your options are:
1. Use a different USB port.
2. Try a better quality USB cable.
3. Connect a powered USB hub between your PC and PocketPOD.
4. Install a USB port expander card on your PC and use these new USB ports with PocketPOD.
If you don't have access to any of these hardware fixes, try your PocketPOD and the Vyzex software on a different computer to see if the problem persists. If it does it could be a problem with your PocketPOD USB port.
Vyzex PocketPOD 1.17 has been in service for years on tens of thousands of computers, each connected to a PocketPOD. It has never been known to cause a PocketPOD to reboot.
Once again to anyone reading this thread - The issue that this thread is named for 'Vyzex Pocket POD starts up but shuts down immediately' has been fixed over two years ago. There is no patch required or available for v1.17. If you have connection problems with your PocketPOD it is either a USB port hardware or MIDI Driver level problem. If your PocketPOD reboots at any point, it is DEFINITELY a hardware problem: 99% of the time it's the USB port on the computer that is to blame, but 1% of the time it turns out to be a hardware problem on the PocketPOD.
