Hey Rockers!
I just bought a POD HD 500 last week, so far so good!
Im playing thru a Spider III 150 combo amp (for now till I save up for something else!) and what I want to know is,
If there is a way to bypass everything on the amp so I can just control the master volume?
Thank you for your time,
Chris N
there is no way to do that specifically, unless you maybe run in tuner mode all the time.
you can use the MP3 input if you get a cable agapter from 1/4" mono from the PODs unbalanced output, to the 1/8" input. I'm not sure if the amps master volume will affect that signal... I seem to think it will, but start with your PODs master volume at minimum and bring it up slowly just in case.
set your POD to studio direct output and line level output. use the full amp models I think. that should get you close to where you wanna be.
Hope this helps

On some of the Spiders you can bypass the preamp section by putting it into 'test mode' ... hold down the tap button when you power it up. In that case the preamp should be disabled and most of the controls should not work. The master may not but, if so, use the one on the HD500.
Hi
With the Spider and Spider Valve series, you have TEST mode which bypasses the DSP and pre-amp section entirely. It also disables ALL controls including the MASTER VOLUME on the amp. This is a viable option in terms of achieving an uncoloured sound from your Spider III 150 (I have a Spider III 150 and the TEST mode option definitely works
)
Basically to get into TEST mode you hold down the TAP button as you pwer the amp ON.
Beware that having no master volume control from the amp, you need to control your master volume level from the POD's MASTER control or you could blow the roof off LOL.
Set the POD HD AMP/LINE switch to LINE and the output mode to Combo Pwr Amp and you should be good to go.

I will try this out tonight!
Thanks, Much appreciated.
hello chris
to bypass all preamp stages and effects on your Spider III, please use the Mp3/CD input
this way you'll use only the power amp stage
don't forget to insert a dummy jack in the guitar In, otherwise the amp output is muted ![]()

I understand that to use the mp3 input the max cable length is about 15 feet. Is there another option? I really dont want to sell the line 6 amp line that I have but need more cable than 15 foot on stage.
Thanks
Check out the answer from the late great Nick Mattocks above. This describes holding down the Tap Tempo button while powering on the Spider to put it into test mode. This bypasses the modelling on the Spider and hooks you straight into the power stage.
Really though, you should not really get line degradation with a good cable until about 30ft.
Stay in the mix and in the know.
