Settings to play POD HD500 through a Tech 21 Power Engine 60?

I just bought a Tech 21 Power Engine 60 (PE60) to use with my HD500. I have two questions:
I also have questions regarding live set up using a PA system. I have two thoughts on how to do this:
Any thoughts on the better method for playing live and settings for each?
A lot of questions . . . thanks for the help!

PS - I did a search and found a lot of discussions on the HD500 and PE60. I'm in the process of going through them. Lots of info regarding the first 2 questions above, but have not come across any comments on the live set up questions, yet.
I know you've searched, but in case you've missed it, here's a recent post by me explaining the settings as they relate to the PE:

It answers both your questions about the PE60. You should try the combo power amp setting first and then possibly studio/direct to see how that sounds. Choose XLR if you're running a long distance and have a problem with hum using 1/4". The other difference between XLR and 1/4" is that XLR keeps the left and right channels separate at all times. If you use only one of the 1/4" outputs then the signal sent will be the mix of the left and right channels.
Here's another post by me on the PE60 with additional information:

On to your other questions...
Since the PE60 is most likely going to sound best in combo power amp mode, you'll probably run into difficulty when also trying to run into a PA. If this is the case you will need to get a DI box with cabinet emulation since the HD500 cannot run one pair of outputs in studio/direct mode and the other pair in combo power amp mode simultaneously. The other option is to configure a dual amp patch with each amp dedicated to its own channel, one amp model with speaker emulation and one without, running the HD500 in studio/direct mode. I've discussed this configuration in more detail here:

and here:

Hope that helps!
Thanks for the help! Do you set the 1/4" OUT setting to line or amp? I assume the AMP setting since the PE60 is probably not a "device with -10dBV inputs typical of mixers and recorders." (to quote the manual).

The PE60 should work fine at either setting as it was designed to handle either.
I would use whichever gives you adequate output and a greater useful range of motion on the volume controls (either the HD500 or the PE60). I would probably set the volume control on the PE60 at 12 o'clock, using the the HD500's Master control as your master volume.
From the PE60 manual:
Volume.
(a) When using the Power Engine 60 with an amplifier/processor, be sure to set
the Power Engine 60 Level control to match (approx.) the output volume of the
amp/processor. If the Power Engine 60 is set higher, it may cause undesirable distortion.
Note: Rely on your ears. The position of the level knobs of the amp/processor
and Power Engine 60 may not necessarily be the same.
(b) When using the Power Engine 60 with a Tech 21 Trademark combo amp,
the Power Engine 60 Level control will most likely yield the best results when at max,
even when the Trademark is at lower levels.
(b) is likely what you will have to do if you have the HD500 set to AMP level.

I think I will start with setting the HD500 output to COMBO POWER AMP; use the 1/4" output with the switch set to AMP; and use the XLR out on the PE60 to go to the sound board.
Thanks for the help!

You're quite welcome.
If you run the HD500 in any setting other output mode than Studio/Direct, you will need to run external speaker emulation on the signal being sent to the PA.
so what did you end up doing with just your HD500 and PE 60. How does it sound? Let us know! thanks
After you've tried it both ways, be sure to let us know which way you prefer (with or without the Pod's cabinet and mic simulation). Also, let us know which speaker is in your Power Engine. I think the newer models use a Celestion 70/80, while the olders ones had a 2112A or something like that.
Stay in the mix and in the know.
