Compatibility within POD Hd and PedalBoard Roland FC-300

Hello,
I just bought a brand new POD HD (desktop) and I was wondering its compatible with the Roland FC-300. Is this some special settings to make it work ?
Thanks for your answer.
no, you need an FBV, or FBV Express... some older versions will work... but its got to be a line6 floorboard.
there are no midi connections on the HD Bean.
Thanks a lot for your help. I had the opportunity to buy a second hand FC 300, but I'm gonna choose some Line 6 Stuff.
Hey, RealZap!
So you mean only Line6 controllers work with the RJ45 connection? I was doing some research to replace my Shortboard that I use with my X3 (bean) and thought about the Roland one, since it also has an RJ45 connection. Do you know if this would work with Line6 gear?
The fact is, my POD2 is way better in the sense that it has MIDI connection, which they removed from newer bean versions. I guess they thought only the PRO guys use MIDI, but it's not my case.
Thanks!
i doubt that any other brand would work, but i've not tried them, they are not supported... and there is a certain degree of risk in trying since the RJ45 pin out is not standardised between manufacturers and power is transmitted via the RJ45.
I see...if they would let us know which wire transmits what, it would be easy to make something like a crossover cat5 to address this issue, having the proper ins and outs mapped out. It would be great to be able to run it with the Roland board, since it has other functionalities that I would use a lot - like the amp channel switching. Well, we can't have it all.
Thank you very much!
I am not sure it would be as simple as that. There may well be some kind of proprietary signalling between the FC300 and the device it is controlling. AFAIK there are no clear standards around this so the odds are that the signals may not make any sense to the POD anyhow.
It it likely that the only commonality between the Line6 footboards and the Roland is that they make use of an RJ45 connector. I would be happy to be pleasantly surprised here but, unless I had access to an FC300, and a cable maker, I don't think I would spend any money trying to find out. Zap's point about the power is significant also.
Sure thing, I'm not paying to see if it works..lol.
My point was, from what I read on the FC300 manual, it works with standard MIDI and also with SysEx and so does POD. With that in mind, I guess it is only a matter of physical connection, as I said about knowing which part of the cat5 transmits what. Of course they won't say it but I really miss the MIDI connection on the X3.
The thing is, I have the two PODs still and I'm thinking about buying a rack loop unit like a Voodoo Lab GCX or something and I would need MIDI to control that. Since the FC300 can control amp channel changes as well, it would be a very nice function to have. I have a hybrid system, with the POD only for digital effects, using distrotion pedals and a preamp before it and a poweramp after. I don't want to remove the POD from my main rig because I've been using them for like 12 years now so I'm familiar with everything and really get what I want from them - also it's a very good way to have a backup if pre or power goes bad and I can plug on the mixer. The only concern is control.
If I really do this, then I guess I should use the POD2, which has MIDI. Less effects options but a very reliable unit.
Thanks for the input guys!
