Mixing headphones

Can anybody suggest some headphones affordable good and accurate enough to mix some POD HD TONES?  as of now i'm kinda in a struggle of the accuracy of mixing the tones... i usually mix my tones on a behringer active PA. It does sound good but when i record them some times the treble or mid or bass sounds a bit more than the actual thing that i mixed with the PA. It sounds kinda scrachy...

    Re: Mixing headphones

Personally I love my AKG K414 & K250 but I'm not sure these are what you'd call "budget conscience" headphones.

I've even had a pair of KOSS headphones that were open air but were very comfortable and I thought they were extremely accurate for being much less expensive than what I use now.

If possible, I think it best to bring music that you KNOW sounds a certain way you like and then plug the headphones into your .mp3 player or the stores without any added EQ.  Whichever ones sound the best to the music you like - those are the best choice for you.

This is the only non-subjective way I could answer this.  I hope it helps.

    Take care,

    Neal

    Hi,

I'm using Sennheiser HD280 Silver Headphones. In my opinion they are very good headphones for the POD HD.

    Not too cheap though.

    Re: Mixing headphones

I have a slightly different approach. I use Bose headphones but rather than monitor the HD500 directly, I have the HD500 output to 2 channels on my analogue mixing desk and plug the headphones in there. What I hear from the desk is precisely what gets recorded. The added benefit to this method is that the patches I create on the HD will need very little tweaking in my live environment as I use studio/direct output exclusively.

I think I read it somewhere else on the forum that there is something not quite right about the headphone output on the HD500 so I don't use it. The Bose headphones as well as my older Sony cans bear testiment to that.

In conclusion, if you mix on the HD500 with headphones then I suppose you really must use that socket to record as it ain't the same as what comes out of the quarter inch jacks and xlrs.
