POD HD BEAN TONES

I hope someone can tell me why any of the dirty amp tones that I make or download sound like crap compared to my XT. The cleans all sound better than the XT being punchier and more responsive but the dirty ones, even the slight tube breakup tones that I make or get from customtone all sound awfull. They seem to have 100 times more fuzz, (RAW SOUNDING) than my XT. What I want is a tone that is thick, tightly compressed with no fizz or fuzz at all, ala Satch. I hope that I am overlooking something but I have spent enough time trying to creating tones on this that I could have gotten a second job and paid for a real setup.I am a firm believer in modeling and have been running direct since the 80's with hope that someday someone would come along and create a device to run direct and I am a firm believer in Line 6 and own alot of their products and really dont want to sell my HD.
Don't give up! The tone you are looking for is definitely in there.
Here's a detailed guide that may help you - thanks to meambobbo.
Someone, at one point, uploaded a batch of reference tones for all the amps from clean to crunch that was really helpful as a canvas to tweak to yor own taste.
I recommend finding that batch download ... saving your presets then loading this one to go through all the amp models you like and try them from clean to high gain.
I find the Uber .. in this batch in bank D with the TS gain turned down to 0 and output to 77 with rest remaining the same gets a nice tight high gain satchlike tone. But try it yourself with different cabs and delays and verbs and see what you think.
You may know some of this already but ....
Try making the change detailed at the top of this thread also if you haven't already. --> http://line6.com/support/thread/74045. Also, if you are running direct to a desk, headphones or FRFR amp setup then make sure that your output is set to Studio/Direct.
+1 on Meambobbo's guide. Check out his recordings if you want to try before you buy ![]()
i would just like to point out that my guide is free - there is nothing to buy. the only "cost" involved is the amount of time it takes to read it. I'm sure jim was just making a joke, but I don't want to confuse or turn off anyone.
.... I want my money back !!!!

I was (somewhat ambiguously in hindsight) suggesting that rychester63 could sample your recordings to see whether they represented the tones that he was after,.
Meambobbo's excellent High Gain Tone guide is indeed a work that he has kindly donated to the community without expectations of monetary recompense, either implied or explicit. Apologies for any confusion.
Incidentally, the guide covers so much ground now that maybe you should ditch the 'High Gain' title.
First and foremost I want to thank all who replied, but I have already done all the info and downloads that you have mentioned. I am running this into a Tech 21 Power Engine 60 for live applications, or at least that is the plan, but so far I am sticking with my XT untill I can figure this out. I got the HD for a steal of a price and so far I am just using it for the FX with my tube amp which does sound good, but I am missing not having different tones for available for each song.

I do think your problem has to do with software or settings somehow, but this statement caught my eye. Generally, if something looks too good to be true - it is. What do you know about the history of this particular unit? Did you get it from a reputable dealer? Is it returnable, just in case there is actually a hardware problem?
Stay in the mix and in the know.
