Vocoder on HD500 doesn't work!

I´ve tried every tutorial on this and I couldn't get to work the vocoder on my hd500. Since the beginning I started to tweak my HD I realized this and I couldn't believe until today. You can even check this out on youtube and there is any tutorial or video that show that the vocoder work. I perfectly connect a sm57 on the XLR connection and tweak my hd edit software and there is no way you can hear this work.
If you are absolutely sure that the Vocoder on your HD500 does not work then you should take it to a Line 6 service centre for repair.

However, if you are open to the possibility that there may be something wrong in your setup, please describe exactly how you have things set up and also attach the preset file that you are using where the vocoder does not work. Perhaps we can help you figure it out.
For instance, here are a couple of threads that may help:
i've tried everything I found on the forums, even what you linked up. I know it's not my setup. I tried with the other filter settings and work properly but with vocoder I get no sound, even from the guitar.
Anyway, I think it's maybe a firmware problem, 'cause I haven't heard of anyone who could make it work. I couldn't even find a youtube video that shows that really work vocoder on hd500.
I've found a video here, albeit in Russian but it's quite straightforward: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnTOeYTlcu4
Gonna try it out when I have time!

I watched that video too. I thought vocoder sound was something else, but truth is not as good as I thought. I've made it work with a distorsion pedal after vocoder module. Souns awful.
I've had it work fine, it's not very good imo I prfer my talk box but it may just be how I use it and it definitely can work. I followed the guide on the forum just make sure your mic levels are set ok and it's good to go. Thing to remember is your guitar won't make any sound it only modulates whats coming through the mic so you won't hear anything till you start talking/singing.
You're right, it's better the vocoder of my kaoss pad 3 than HD500, but I would like it to work better 'cause the carrier signal is important when you're using a vocoder. KP3 doesn't use a carrier signal to work, so it's more difficult to find a tone if you're not have one.
So it DOES work then....
The fact that you don't like the sound of it is irrelevant. Good or bad, this is the whole point of the HD500, ie it is a device that requires input from the user to get the best out of it.
I was going to get a Digitech RP1000, but at the time, I heard the the HD series was about to be released, so I hung on for it. I am glad I did, especially as I then went out and bought a Variax 300! At a band session the other day we came up with an improvised pastiche of Deep Purple's 'Lazy', where I was reproducing the equivalent of Richie Blackmore playing Peter Green's guitar through David Gilmour's rig....
It's all in the tweaking! Alternatively you can trawl through the customtones to find something that suits your taste. Personally I do a bit of both.

Please, don't misunderstand me, I'm very happy with my HD500, it's a real rock'n roll machine, and it has taught me to use every analogic process I haven't used because I prefer multieffects processors than analogic stomp boxes. Maybe there are one or two missing things in HD500, but I think I don't need anything else by now. Thanks all for your answers. They were very useful.
