Toneport UX2 will only work as an interface when Gearbox is running?

Hi, I have a Toneport UX2 interface and I've been using it for quite some time now. What I like to do is hook amps to the interface outputs and use that to play music from my computer; the interface would be plugged in to my computer, make itself the default device, and all sound from the computer would come out of my system rather than the built in speakers.

Until today that is. Now, I will connect the UX2 and it is recognized, still making itself the default device, but no sound comes through. Itunes won't play (as it has in the past when it didn't know what driver to use for playback), the control panel test won't even initiate, absolutely nothing -- until I run Gearbox. THEN it works just as it's supposed to, taking all the sound, but not unless gearbox is running too. I checked my recent windows updates (I'm running a Windows 7 64-bit) and I don't see any that deal with audio devices, but I could have missed something.

The only other thing that would have changed is I installed skype yesterday, which messed up which devices were used for what. I have since uninstalled skype, and the problem persists.

If no sound is coming through without Gearbox, perhaps it is only Gearbox that is causing the device to be the default device, and it is not in fact the audio device when you simply connect the UX2.

Try manually setting the UX2 as the computer's default soundcard by using the Windows Audio control panel.

      +1 to silverhead.

For tutorials on setting up your Line 6 hardware as your computer's external sound card, reference the link below:

      Windows Vista - 7
      http://line6.com/support/docs/DOC-1453

If you still have trouble receiving output from the UX2, I would suggest that you use the Line 6 Uninstaller located at the location below to remove your currently installed Line 6 drivers:

      Windows 7/Vista  -  C:\Program Files(x86)\Line6\Tools -  Line6Uninstaller

Make sure to disconnect any of your Line 6 USB devices prior to starting the uninstaller. Make sure to only check the boxes at the bottom of the list that are related to the Line 6 drivers, and proceed to uninstall them. Once they are removed, restart the computer. Upon restart download the latest Line 6 Window Drivers from the link below:

      Windows Drivers 4.2.5.1:

      http://line6.com/software/readeula.html?rid=4399

Make sure not to connect your Line 6 USB device until prompted to so at the end of the installation process. After connecting it, make sure and look towards the Windows system clock for a notification that Windows has detected your device and has successfully installed the drivers before moving forward. If you do not receive this notification message, make sure to try reconnecting the Line 6 hardware to each available USB port until you have exhausted all available USB ports.

Then try again to assign it as the systems sound card, from there make sure and connect your speakers or headphones directly to the outputs of the UX2.
