No Sound in Guitar Jack from new Ovation

I own a Vetta II and a Variax 700. I purchased a new Ovation today, new Fender cord etc. Played the guitar in the store through a Fishman amp and had great sound. Got home plugged it in the Vetta II, no sound. Both analog and digital inputs are on. I used the new cable with my Variax through the jack rather than VDI and the sound is fine. Plug in the Ovation and no sound. Anyone have any clues on what is the cause?
It works at the store but not in your Vetta. You ONLY have one input choice which would be the 1/4" input jack. If this is not working, then I have no idea why as it can not be turned off in any way even with the VDI cable plugged into a Variax guitar.
I suggest plugging in the Ovation to some other amp just to see if it works, as well as plugging a different guitar into the 1/4" to see if that works as well. If BOTH work in other amps or with other guitars, then you've got me stumped and I'll pass this on to whomever else pops in to read your problem.
Unless the battery died between the store and your house, there is no reason the Ovation should not work in the volume is turned up, and it's NOT in tuner mode if your Ovation has a built in tuner. Tuner mode turns OFF the output of the guitar on those preamps that have that feature.
I hope these suggestions give you the answer. I can't imagine anything other than what i wrote, but who knows until you try them all?
Take care,
Neal
With all respect to Merlin, you CAN turn the input off.
You can also toggle the Variax and the SPDIF inputs on that same page.
Hope this helps,
Good Luck,
Joe
Okay - after 8+ years of having my Vetta, I've never seen that. but I have now looked and I thin kyou are referring to the "analog" Mine doesn't say input, but it does have an on/off feature which I've never touched. Thanks for the new info!
Take care,
Neal
You are correct that it only says "analog".
I see that i meant to write "Analog" input, but didn't close my quote in the right place.
Sorry for not being clear.
Joe
** Joe - if you're writing to me, no worries. I honestly had never ever touched that control in 8+ years of having my Vetta.
** Machtoo - I'm sorry you seemed to have had a defective preamp on the model Ovation you brought home. I have a couple of the nice models with the really nice preamp, and the volume should be loud, not quiet like you described. I hope your new order does everything it should do and sound how you want.
Take care,
Neal
I appreciate your input. As I tried to explain in the original post, I tested all scenarios. I had already replaced the battery. Using the exact same cable in the 1/4" jack on the Vetta, I plugged in my Variax 700T and the amp is fine...will blow you away as usual. Plug in the Ovation and nothing except a tuner indication when using the tuner. My assumption was the output from the pre-amp in the Ovation was extremely low. I tested in my 300W PA and had to cut the volume on the channel to almost max to hear sound. Also tested in my small practice amp (Line 6 Spyder) and had to cut the channel and master open completely. The tech at the store (I am a EE and also an electronics tech for many years) tried to say it was due to the 1/4" jack expecting magnetic pickups instead of acoustic piezo...that was a no go since my Variax is peizo pickups...shouldn't matter anyway. I have played other acoustic electrics through the Vetta with no issue.
The 6778 was used so I took it back today and we compared this one with another lower end Ovation in a Line 6 Spyder, The lower end Ovation was 10 times louder than the 6778. Has to be a pre-amp issue. So I ordered a new Elite 2078AX with XLR out as well as 1/4". The store will swap them out when it arrives.
Also, the Vetta's niche is being able to plug my Variax into the VDI and another guitar (such as an acoustic) plugged into the 1/4" and have a preset for an acoustic to send it direct to the PA. Since the new one will have XLR out I will probably go direct to the PA but it should work just as well in the Vetta II.
Thanks again.
Both analog and digital (VDI for Variax) are enabled in the system setpu for mine. You can turn one or all on or off as well as having a preset go to the speakers in the cab or direct to xlr out to a PA.
Stay in the mix and in the know.
