best way to connect two, 212's stereo extension cabs to vette2

I have two Marshall 1936 stereo extension cabs. How/what is the best way to connect them to the vetta2.
I would like to have one speaker left/having same output as the vetta's left speaker.
And one right/having same output as the vetta's right speaker. So if i had, say, a ping pong delay,
it would ping pong left ex cab to right ex cab.
Many Thanks
Gary.
Piece of cake. If your 1936 cabs are 8 ohms or 16 ohms, then were good to go. I HIGHLY recommend using one cab left & one cab right. The following explains stereo options as well as mono.
Typically Marshall cabs that are stereo have FOUR ohm options two for Stereo, two for mono. If you use one cab for left and one for right, then each cab input must be set to MONO and plug into the 16 ohm side of the input plate. If you are using both cabs in stereo, then plug each side with the 8 ohm input jack on the plate while switched to stereo mode. You will also need to SPLIT each out put as you will have two LEFT and two RIGHT to plug into with both cabs in stereo mode. No big deal to do, just need a speaker cable that is a "Y" cord. you CANNOT daisy chain from cab input and use the other input as an output. The stereo cabs are not designed to work that way.
Simply hook them up to the external speaker outs that correspond to the outputs to you want each cab to be.
You MUST then PHYSICALLY DISCONNECT the internal speakers from the Vetta.
It's best to pull both clips off each speaker, then wrap them up with electrical tape SEPARATELY so they do not touch anything or worse case - each other.
If you will ALWAYS use external cabs, then you could make the Vetta lighter by removing the speakers entirely. However, if you choose this option, you MUST NEVER use the combo without any speakers connected unless you TURN OFF the speaker outputs from within the output menu on the Vetta. Using the head with the speakers on without any physical speakers connected will eventually burn out your head.
This should be your answer and if not, please write back and let me know more about your 1936 cabs if they don't match what I believe they should be. Thanks.
Take care,
Neal
I'm just curious:
Why should the combo speakers be unplugged?
Thanks,
Joe
Because each internal speaker is 8 ohms. If you connect any other speakers you will overload the minimum ohm load out put of the head.
More speakers with min ohm load less than 4ohms = POOF! Blown head.
I'll see if I can find the article from Wikipedia about ohms and how the ratings work and what they mean. I'll post it here for anyone who might find it useful.
Take care,
Neal
No need to post that reference on my account.
I thought that the speaker outputs on the rear panel of the combo were independent of the internal speakers, and could be used as labeled and not affected by the state of the internal combo speakers.
Since i don't use external cabs with my combo, i really haven't given this topic much thought.
Joe
Hi Joe - you did ask me that question, right?
So...why then write ands say I did not need to inform of something you wrote you did not know. NOW you are better informed.
However, the person who started this thread is who I'm trying to answer. I have him a 100% correct answer and hopefully he'll read it and get the proper results. Any others that learn new things, like I do everyday, all the better. No one can ever be too start to not need to learn something. in fact I learned from another Vetta usere here that there is a function that can turn off the 1/4" input jack. For 8+ years I've had a Vetta combo which I use every week along with my POD HD gear now, and I had no idea that function was there. Now I do. I've learned something yet again and I'm the better for it.
Take care,
Neal
** Gary - you out there bro? Did you read what was written and give it a try yet? Please let me and other here know how you're making out with your gear - thanks.
OOPS. Once again i wasn't clear. I simply meant that you didn't need to post a guide to determining the total impedance when combining speakers. I know how to calculate that.
My question referred to this:
I've never used external speakers with my combo,
I am pretty familiar with all the documentation on the combo.
I could not remember any case being mentioned in the documentation or in this forum in which the internal speakers needed to be disconnected to safely operate external speakers. I had thought that the speaker output jacks were in some way isolated from the internal speakers, with a total impedance minimum of either 4 ohms in "split stereo mode" or 8 ohms in "normal mode" at the speaker output jack(s) as controlled by the switch between the jacks. I certainly could be wrong....
I suppose that the wide-ranging discussions in threads that used to occur in forum are, sadly, a thing of the distant past.
Sorry for the confusion; I'll try to limit myself to more on-topic comments in the future.
Joe
Cheers Neal,
Tried out your method, in mono (no Y leads, yet).
Worked a treat, Very, wide, big sound. What can this amp not do.
Glad you mentioned the disconnection of the vetta's own speakers, i would'nt of done that.
I'm going to try the stereo, Y leads option when i can get hold of them.
Many Thanks
Gary.
