M5 Not retaining changes to effects

Greetings,
Been using my M5 for some time now. It does not retain any changes I've made,
so every time I go back to a particular effect, I've got to reset all the parameters.
I checked to see if its set to Autosave or manual and its on Autosave.
Also have the M13 and that works just fine...
Any ideas on how to correct this?
Thanks
Autosave only retains the changes you make to any of the 24 presets, not to any of the effect models themselves. When you turn the model select knob to bring up a new effect within a preset, that effect is loaded with its default settings. There's no way to change what those are.
Thanks Phil! Didn't realize that was the case. I thought it
saved settings tha same as the M13.
Appreciate the help!
Brad
The information you have provided to bchulse is incorrect. The M5 presets automatically are retained no matter what mode you are in. This is also stated in the operators manual. The midi/save functions are the same for the M5,M9 and M13. Please get your facts and refrain from providing misinformation to people looking for solutions to their problems on this post, it is not helpful and only serves to muddy the waters.
Nope. The information I provided above is correct. You are confusing the model defaults with the presets. There are over 100 effects models that you can select from in the M5, and whenever you bring one of the up in a preset, all the parameters are set to defaut values. Those defaults cannot be changed. However if you bring up a certain model while in a preset in autosave mode, set that the way you want it, than leave that preset and come back, that model will be saved in that preset the way you left it. But by doing that, you're saving that model with those settings in that particular preset slot. You're not changing the default settings of the model.
I apologise if I was not specific enough in my previous posts regarding the M5 program change features. You are correct in stating that the M5 will not save factory presets unless they are specifically saved via the "user presets", with one notable EXCEPTION. The M5 "will" save all user edits to any of the "factory" presets when the M5 is being used as a MIDI slave to an externally connected MIDI devise. As I have stated in a previous post, I am personally using an M5 as a MIDI "slave" to a Roland GR-55 and was saving any of the factory presets of my choosing, including edits" without having to save these presets to M5 user preset locations. The M5 saved these "edited" factory programs as a MIDI slave to the GR-55 and would always recall those saved parameters and presets whenever they were triggered through the MIDI out from the GR-55. Even after powering both units down and re-powering them, the preset allocations on the M5 would always "remember" the MIDI data send info from the Roland GR-55.
I ran into a problem a month ago when the M5 all of a sudden failed to receive program changes from my GR-55. Now a month later after having my unit repaired it now works again just as described above. As a matter of fact the repair facility told me that Line 6 is notorious for not being up to date on the detailed operation of many of it's products and because of this there is a lot of confusion among the users of it's products. After the misinformation or lack thereof on this site I wholeheartedly agree. They personally witnessed the above MIDI function of my personal set up when I went there to pick up my M5 .
So once again, I really do not appreciate being told by so-called experts that my facts are incorrect when in FACT they are. I suggest that if you have your doubts concerning my above detailed comments that you actually use the M5 as a MIDI devise as I have and then voice your opinion on the matter.
I'm glad you got your issue solved, but we're still talking about different things here. If you're sending MIDI PC messages to the M5, you're selecting the corresponding preset - 1 from the possible 24. In autosave mode, all the changes you make will be remembered, just like you're saying happens.
Anyway, like you, I don't want to put any misleading info out there either. I think you're misinterpreting the original post on this thread. But if you want to think I'm mistaken there's nothing I can do to prevent that.
I have an M5 and have the same problem it appears to be a malfunction in the unit itself. I have owned my M5 for three months and it has saved all of the default presents or the user presets automatically as well as midi preset information without issue until last night when none of these functions would save for me! This was very frustrating to me sinse it occurred at the beginning of a gig I was playing. I've been using the M5 as a midi "slave" processor along with my Roland GR-55 as the midi "host". I triggered all of my M5 presets automatically through the Roland GR-55 presets. This arrangement worked flawlessly, no elaborate program changes to have to navigate with the M5 as one of it's virtues was saving everything automatcally!!! Now I am very put-off by the premature failure of this devise and will be contacting Line 6 Monday asap to resolve this issue....Good luck with your unit!
