Problem with preset effect reverting to knob setting

Hi,

I'm not sure exactly how to describe the problem, but basically when I choose a preset effect from on my spider valve 112, after a random amount of time (sometimes a couple of seconds, sometimes several minutes or more) it automatically reverts to what i think are the knob positions on the amp.  For example, if i'm using a preset that has low bass EQ setting, but the bass knob position is high, the amp automatically boosts the bass on the preset after that random amount of time.  I think it does this for EQ, drive, volume etc..

I've tried searching for a solution in the forum but got nowhere.  I don't think it's the auto-fx thing because I tried turning that off by turning on the amp while holding D or whatever it is.  That worked for a while but then started doing it again.

I got frustrated once and turned it off and back on immediately and the settings stayed at the desired preset configuration the whole jamming time of over an hour.  The following day when I turned it on it started doing it again.

I'm really angry with this amp, it's my first Line 6 purchase and it's very disappointing.  First of all I got ripped off by the retailer, I paid over $1000 for it and then I find out it's an old model (my fault maybe for not having researched the product line up of Line 6 beforehand, but you wouldn't expect a large reputable chain to carry old equipment), and it's acting with a mind of its own.  It has done this from the moment i bought it so I thought I just didn't know how to use it properly.  Now I'm fed up with it and it's too late to return it.

Thanks,

Eddy

I'm not exactly sure about your problem as it does seem like a weird one but I remember reading about a master volume knob jitter problem with the mark 1's. I'm wondering if maybe at loud volumes some of the pots on the amp are jittering and changing values.

I even read where one guy had to duct-tape his master volume on the amp to keep it from going nutso. It sucks that those A-holes at the store duped you into buying the older one at such a heavy price.I seen that version head model going for 499 brand new up here last year.

I hope you can get it all resolved and that amp had some killer tones from a few examples I seen on utube. One young dude named JustinShreds really gave it a good thrashing with the "As I Lay Dying" and "Soil" presets.A lot of guys say the Mark 1's have a really warm sound and good tone even without the Strymon pre-amp modification.Good luck amigo.

Sorry for not seeing this thread sooner. Based on the what you wrote in the first post, I have a bad feeling that you were sold a unit that has an internal mainboard issue because all those symptoms point to DSP-related malfunction.

Assuming that internal hardware components are OK, users can perform what we can a system reset on the amp's firmware by: (1) Powering OFF the amp (2) Press and hold the [A} switch, keeping it held down power ON the amp and continue holding for another 5-8 seconds.

If you do this, and the symptoms still persist... I hate to say it, but there's internal hardware malfunction. The only fix for an amp in this state is for a repair technician to access the chassis and troubleshoot the point of failure on the mainboard and replace the bad component(s).

Was this a new amplifier sale from one of our Authorized Dealers? If so, when was the date of purchase?

Sorry to hear that, man. The only entity I recall in the UAE was:

        THOMSUN PURE MUSIC

        PO Box 6419

        DUBAI

        U.A.E.

        Phone: +971 4 3242626

They were the Line 6 Distributor in Dubai; I'm not sure if they're still active. You might try giving them a call to see.

I have a Spider Valve Mk2 and have the exact same problem the amp is abot 16 month old bedroom and studio use only, let me down badly in studio became unusable....I`ve had to send it to line 6 in U.K. to get it repaired, dreading the cost of repair. Its sad cause I really liked the amp, but now I dont trust it. I await its return and will post how I get on.

Got the amp back today repaired  Cost me £86. The fault, a faulty channel volume pot R16.....The actual cost of the new pot was £1.50 I think line6 charge £45 per hour rest carrige and the actual shop taking a profit.

Pot/part info 01-486103 Pot mono 10kb linear taper. (hope this helps)

I also have a friend who has a Spider Valve Mk2 and he`s now having problems, seems to me Line 6 create great products but have no actual road testing, they just send em out and rely on customers to fault find, I think a better quality control is needed. Don`t know how long this repair will last..I have no confidence in the amp, I love its sounds but just await its next fault. Pity.
