question

variax 500.works ok with batteries. with power supply volume phases in and out every 4 to 5 seconds. Light on footswitch constant as it should be. power supply works ok with my variax acoustic any help appreciated, thanks, Harry

It is possible that there may be a hardware problem with the Variax's input jack, but there is a tech bulletin on the XPS power supply when used with the Variax 500 guitars.

I suggest taking it to an authorized service center and taking both the guitar and the XPS with power supply and TRS cable and telling them to look at Tech Bulletin 048:
