Blue screen of death on Win7 with HD500

Hi!

I have a problem using POD HD500 with my PC laptop (Lenovo W510, Windows 7, 4Gb RAM). I have installed the latest Monkey (1.51) and drivers (4.2.5.1). POD HD500 Edit works well. However, if I run a DAW software (I tried Audacity and Reaper), the system quickly fails showing the blue screen. Without POD connected, DAW works well. Without DAW, laptop doesn't fail, HD500 works well with Edit or as a sound card. So, I can't record anything. Help me please

Thanks!

This is not normal and nor is it my experience with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit running on a Sony Vaio. Some people have report a BSOD when they disconnect their POD HD500 without selecting Safely Remove Device first.  I don't believe it's a POD driver problem on your computer, but rather that something else that's been pre installed is clashing with the ASIO drivers used by the POD. I have no idea what that might be as I dont have your specific system in front of me, but you could start perhaps by using MSCONFIG to prevent unnecessary programs starting with Windows, and you could disconnect any other non essential hardware to check what might be interfering here . You don't say what type of CPU your machine has. FWIW these days I always go with an Intel CPU and Intel chipset as that basic combination always works for me straight out of the box. Another thing you could try is updating your computer's graphics interface drivers to the latest WHQL certified version which may not be as up to date as the manufacurer's latest version which may not have been WHQL certified yet.

You have some troubleshooting to do to identify what's going on and that could be fun.

    Good luck

+1 all of Nick.  It isn't an AMD CPU on your laptop is it?  There is a known issue with the 'Filter Driver' on some of those that can cause a BSOD.,  I dont think that chip is used on your laptop but it may be worth double checking.

    Hi,

Did the reinstall fix the issue. This type of BSOD is sometimes related to other drivers on the system conflicting with the POD HD's driver. The most common ones are:

Out of date video card drivers, Other Audio interface drivers, Web Cams/Digital Cameras. What other devices do you have connected to your system via USB?

    Thanks,

    David

    Hi,

Hrrrmmm.... These issues can be hard to track down. What results did you get when using WhoCrashed?

    Hi,

In Reaper try selecting the ASIO Driver for the POD HD500 not the WDM driver. Is there an POD HD ASIO option in Reaper?

    Thanks,

    David
