Pocket Pod Noise/Hum

I purchased a Pocket Pod in late 2010. I used it for several months as a practice tool and set it aside for several months and again a month or so ago. Recently I had a need to use it again and when I plugged my Heritage into it, there was an extremely loud hum, almost like a ground hum. When I touched the bridge or the guitar cable (firmly on both) the hum would go away. So I reversed the polority of the Line 6 power adaptor on the wall, I changed the guitar cable several times, changed to my stratocaster, changed headphones, just about everything I could think of. The noise is incredible loud and only goes away when I grasp the strings firmly, resting my palm on the bridge, or touching the cable ends. I contacted a local authorized service center for Line 6 and they have a bench test fee of $65. I can buy a used Pocket Pod at that price! This is very very odd. I really love the tone and settings of the Pod, but no idea how this can start suddenly. I'd hate to think I need to connect a wire to ground the unit.... Any help here would be great.
Sorry to see this is going on with your POD. Unfortunately, it looks like it's too far out of warranty to be replaced if there's a problem with the unit. Paying to fix it may or may not be feasible to you, depending on the risks you're willing to take with used gear. I'd get as basic a setup as possible (POD, guitar cable, guitar only), then using batteries, substituting guitar cables and guitars. If the POD is the only unchanged element of the setup and the hum remains, the POD is the problem.
