One assumes you know the POD cannot drive a speaker or cab on its own, it is just a preamp at best.

Any number of "powered" monitors would work short of buying a rather inexpensive power amp to run a cab.

I use an ART SLA-1 power amp, 2channel L/R 100 watts 8 ohms into a 4x12 split cab. Just kills.but maybe too much bang and buck for some.

Power amps are so inexpensive at a workable wattage level these days. In fact it is a little hard to find one about a 100 watts to be usefull as a std guitar type rig.

My ART was super low priced and great quality, has its own quiet cooling fan.

I tend to keep my POD about 3:00 on the master or a littlle less. The Power amp has plenty of power just set at half level as the POD main outs have a huge preamp drive level. I find the other output modes on the POD to be much thinner than the fullrange direct stereo main outs. I have not attempted to mess with the modes that have EQ params as it just adds more variables to my tones in which I am using 1-3 EQs in my presets it just screws with my final tone more than I need. Besides the full main outs are just great. I do wish Line 6 would add a no mic option just to be able to turn off that coloring aspect of the preset as the wrong mic can just ruin the tone. It would be nice to be able to just run out of the preset without having to go through a mic model.

The POD just kills on my 4x12 split cab. The ART SLA-1 was really low priced and is a studio quality power amp. Really nice unit, I was rather amazed at the quaility, power cabability, and build for such a low price. It also has its own quiet cooling fan.

Turning the power amp up all the way is too much to handle in the same room at a full 100 watts per channel.

My standard tube head is 100 watts and the power amp rig can easily be too loud just like the std 100 watt head system was.

Wattage is a big deal for me not for loudness but regarding headroom, bandwidth and fidelity. I was never a fan of the little watt easy clip amps.

The beauty of the POD rig is being able to dial in a great sounding Dr Z or one of the other smaller amps and unlike the real amp not running out of wattage headroom causing the amp to just distort out, that is all fine and good if that is all you are after, but it is rather cool to get a nice cleaner full tone out of those little amps without being forced into clipping too early. The amplified clean tone on some of the amps is really a nice tone very warm tube feel. The Fenders are just amazing and the uber gain models sound better than most amps I have messed with.

The sound using a guitar cab is better to me than trying to use a 2way, or 3way speaker as the crossover network splits and divides the sound. Most would not attempt to use a guitar head on a 2way,.3way speaker crossover system. Yet no one blinks on just plugging into a PA system. Due to the physics of the system your signal is being split between 2 or 3 speakers depending on the PA speaker config crossover circuit.  I am not saying it cannot work but it does split your signal and your EQ will be much different to get it to sound right. I think many have experienced setting up presets on headphones and when piping into a PA the sounds are much different. To me the creation of the primary tone is much different than listening to something on playback monitors.

If you want the truest most realistic amp tone, I have found it. The depth, power and punch of using a power amp into a guitar cab is comparable to the real deal. The ability to actually render a dual stacked amp model actually makes for a richer and fuller sound than you are going to get out of a guitar amp.  After taking a couple of months to really learn the POD system I am really impressed by the quality of the amp model tones. My wife was also taken back at how dynamic some of the tones are out of the non tube rig yet it sounds like I am using not just my 100 watt guitar amp but 2 of them in stereo.

Those trashing these new models are probably not really hearing them at their full potential.
