??Question mark in Flash Memory section-Line 6 Monkey-Help

So I was using HD edit fine the last time I used it. Now it can't find my Pod HD 500. In Monkey, there is a question mark next to the Flash Memory update and I can't update it? It was working fine before. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Reinstall the driver from the Monkey menu...
I did re-install the driver before i posted this. no luck. will try again when the servers are back up.
So i've reinstalled Monkey, HD edit and the drivers. When i try to install flash memory, i get a message from Safari telling me there is no default application to open the file. Still confused. Like i said, everything was working fine last week. Also getting a sysytem extension error about Line 6 audio.kext saying that insecure startup item disabled, please try reinstalling it or contact the vendor. What to do next?
..and i've changed USB cables back and forth...FYI

What exact file are you clicking on when it says there is no default application?
When i download the flash memory from the line 6 website, a file appears in my downloads that says-P18.phf
I then double click it to try and open it and that is when it says "There is no default application to open this file"
I repaired permissions also, still no luck.

OK. What you need to do is go into Line 6 Monkey first, then select your HD device. Click the button that says "Update From File..." and then use the Mac folder browser to locate it in your Downloads folder. (If it's just a small window, click the down-facing disclosure triangle on the right.) Open that file *from the Update From File... box* and it should work.
I don't see anything that says "update from file." I'm on a mac if that helps. I launched Monkey, it says select the Line 6 device you'd like to configure, I select POD HD 500, click OK, then I'm at the place where the question mark for Flash Memory is...then I'm stuck again. I appreciate all of your help...what am i missing here?
hmmm...so the mac is NOT talking to the POD...There is a safe mode for the POD...I think it is the same for the 500 as the 300/400 but somebody might better check me on that one...
If it's talking, then you should be able to do the update...
Yeah, still no luck.....
You are getting a failed connection when you start Monkey? I suppose it might help if you could outline what you see as Monkey is starting up...any wierd dialogs?
Sorry, I don't have a mac...but maybe this will yeold some clues...My instincts tell me something is wrong with the driver...What you describe is consistent with a missing driver in Windows...
No weird dialogs, just the Grayed out question mark next to Flash Memory.....
Also, there is no USB firmware info on the main monkey screen if that makes sense....in other words....Driver/Drivers/green checkmark 5.12...Device Firmware/grayed out ?/Flash Memory...Applications/Green checkmark/Pod HD500 edit/1.00....Green Checkmark/Line 6 Monkey/1.34
Could you post a screenshot? Sorry, I just have never seen Monkey on the mac...maybe there are some differences...
And I take it you have tried different USB ports on the machine? different cables? My guess is that you can't connect to Edit either?
Man that is strange...No dialogs..You aren't selecting the HD500...It comes up this way? In Windows Monkey, if you fire up without the device connected you have to choose one...then you get something like you see...sorry, I just don't know what is going on...
i appreciate all of your help, but is there a Line 6 Mac expert you can refer this to....yes i've switched ports and cables etc.....could it be the HD 500 itself being faulty? I live near Agoura Hills, where Line 6 is located, i would have no problem taking it there....seriously...
I am hoping that Rowbi logs on and sees this...I think he has a mac...shoot him a PM...
sent Rowbi a message...
cool...He's on UK time....
I read over the thread again...
Is there anything that you can think of that you installed, ran etc on your mac between the time you last used Edit and then it just quit working...
No matter how trivial it might help narrow down the cause...That disk permissions thing is a bit weird to me. One way you could insure that the drivers get put in using proper permissions would be to totally remove them...run the disk permission utility and then install the drivers after the reboot...A Line 6 guy mentioned that based your first descriptions...That seems like the best lead thus far...
One thing I did that messed up my driver in windows was installing the driver with the device connected...
well, now that you mention it, i did have to reinstall my OS from the disk because my cpu froze on me when i was trying to install a virtual instrument.... that did happen between the last time i was using hd edit successfully.....i will try what you said about the permissions and then re-installing the drivers after that...maybe that will work....
I think you should definitely reinstall the drivers. Line 6 Monkey won't recognize any devices plugged in by USB unless the drivers are properly installed. If you reinstalled your operating system, you would have lost the Line 6 drivers.
I am thinking that might do it...The permissions repair won't fix non Apple stuff from what I am understanding...Remove, Repair & Install should do the trick...
Here's a bit more about it...
AMEN!!!!! Problem solved!!! Thank you spaceati and everyone else for all of your help. I uninstalled/trashed everything, repaired disk permissions, restarted cpu, re-installed everything and BAM!!! Success!!!
Good News! Sorry it took 3 pages to figure it out...Enjoy your HD!![]()
EDIT: I am not sure if Line 6 has a specific FAQ on this issue...Seems like they need to get a bit more specific on the disk permissions utility and what that means for Line 6 software.
Sorry no mac in rowbiville I used to have an old one that i put osx on for a laugh and I used to maintain some at work... But not any more All the things I can think of have been suggested but I will keep thinking
I'm having the same problem but with a PC interface. My cable is working as I downloaded some new patches from the toneport...the flash memory download failed twice late in the download 15-20 minutes in.
Yes, that is what I would do...That shouldn't hurt anything as long as you have all your tone files and such...
Also, FYI. although you probably know this already, is that my HD 500 says i have the latest version of Flash (1.10) and USB (1.01) Firmware but Monkey says no on the flash. There is no USB window on Monkey, but i'm sure you know that.

- power up the POD holding down A....
- don't bother with the reset...just leave it...
- connect the USB and then fire up the Monkey...
If it's talking, then you should be able to do the update...
On the HD500 the trick sometimes is to put the unit into Test mode (safe mode?) by holding down the right D-Pad button whilst powering on.
Yeah Nick, that didn't work. Also uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers....thanks anyways
Hi,
This sounds like a problem with permissions in OSX. Let's try repairing disk permissions and see if that helps.
Macintosh HD>Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility
Once you have Disk Utility open select your hard drive from the list and click repair permissions.
Restart the computer and see if the device is detected.
Thanks,
David
