Need some help please :)

I am currently debating on what amp I should get.

But! It will definitely be a line 6.

So my questions are:

When was the MKII HD150 Spider IV Half Stack released?

---------------------Spider Valve MKII HD100 Half Stack released?

What amp is the newest?

What pedal should I get with the amp? (I was looking at a HD500 POD)

The FBV is compatible with the amp, but would the HD 500 be as well?

Thanks

Enjoy,

Jake

If you're looking to get an HD500 then you should seriously consider the DT50 or cheaper DT25 - I would like the 25 myself. I have seen them demoed together with a JTV and it sounded pretty amazing. Also the DT range are designed to work with the HD via the special Link cable, which gives you extra control of the amp automatically from the HDs presets (once set up of course).

Well it did answer your question because the DT25 is the newest amp available and the HD500 is the best (and newest) pedal for it.

50W is usually plenty unless you're playing stadiums, then you need to mic it anyway.

Could you list what amps were considered better for the price. I'm sure there plenty but I bet most have 'their' sound and won't necessarily give you a flat enough response to make the HD500 sound any good except as an effects unit.

i think you are judging 50watts in the context of a solid state amp....

a 50 watt tube head will blow your friggin head off if you open it up...

i have the DT50, and its too loud for most things...

the DT25 didnt exist when i got it....

but i don't regret it at all... its an amazing amp.

i know its not always possible... but give it a listen before you rule it out...

Yep - I've had to make serious adjustment to my DT50 amps in order to play them on stage without killing anyone and still get the output tubes cranking which is the whole point of having a tube amp.

The wattage rating is based on a term called RMS.  Basically, this is a term that means, how much power the amp will produce beofre it starts to break up.

For example - I've put my 50w Marshall head up against a 100w Fender Twin back in 1976.  I blew his amp out of the room.  The other thing about RMS back in those days which might still apply - I do not know - is how the British measure RMS and how the American companies mesaure it.  At least back in 1976.  Very different specs which can truly only be measured by your own ears and listening how the amps sound.

          Take care,

          Neal

Then Mr_Arkadin who has earned his Line 6 Expert status wrote back with the answer.

Next were these two posts from you seeming to contradict each other...

and whats included in the boxes?

        power, cables, ...etc?

And that didnt necessarily answer my question but it did help. but im looking for the newest amp available here and what pedal would work best with it.

        thanks

        jwenta123 wrote:

also, the dt50 costs 500 more. and is a 50w, which does not seem like much. secondly, the reviews I;m reading for it are that it costs too much for what it offers. the sound is good, but there are better amps for cheaper...etc. so I don't think I'm too interested.

Besides a DMX 3-pin cable (it looks like a typical XLR cable, but is not) you would need to buy to connect any POD HD unit to any DT amp using the L6 Link technology.

Then Mr_Arkadin and TheRealZap (who also earned his L6 Expert status) then went on to continue to explain you question was answered correctly, and what a DT50 tube amp is and the RMS power rating system and why it might be confusing to some.

Next up were your two replies that I'm not sure how they fit together...

Yea you're right, this will be my first tube amp. So yea, i'm getting a DT50 half stack with a HD 500. And gold USB to USB, gold monster  cables and then in a month,a NJ deluxe warbeast :-D

Just one more question before I buy this. Do you have any knowledge as to if any new amps or pedals are about to be released?

It'll be annoying, "yes got my amp!" Line 6.com... New amp released today. "WHAT!?"

        Haha

        and

        Can't edit on phone,

gold because it provides the best in speed and quality. And it doesn't  I guess rot or deteriorate like regular  wires.

Oh yea, also in a few months, i'm looking at the relay g90

The gold USB cables are not needed, nor are USB cables at all since those come with a POD HD unit in the box.  The DT amps just come with a simple power cord.  You need to buy the DMX L6 link Cable as an accessory to get these uintis to work together as Line 6 designed them.  FYI - there are dozens and dozens of instructional videos from line 6 and others who own these pieces of Line 6 gear on YouTube and other sites if you want to learn more before buying - if somehow you were not aware of this.

Then TheRealZap made a last statement about his lack of knowledge about some of the items you wrote about, but what he thought of the DT amp which is their Flagship amplifier, and he is probably correct that nothing new will be out for quite a long time since this gear is only about a year or so old from the time it was released.

I also added a bit more detail about the details of RMS ratings and why tube amp are typically listed with much lower power ratings than solid state output amps.  Yet another example - I have a 2003 Line 6 Vetta 2x12 combo solid state amp is rated at 300watts.  Just one of my pair of DT50 1x12 amps rated at 50watts blows the doors off my Vetta in a volume contest.  That's a 6:1 ratio difference and yet the smaller rated tube amp is much louder.

And all this to run a BC Rich NJ Deluxe Warbeast guitar into?  I honestly suggest getting a much simpler front end like a POD HD300 (after reading your posts, I think the HD500 is more complex for your needs based on the guitar you mentioned getting in the future) into a DT25 (not DT50) amp so you can turn it up without damaging eardrums in the process and being asked to turn down all the time.

Or even simpler with a Warbeast guitar style of music...just get the amp put it on Mode IV with Pentode preamp selected, and Class A/B output selected.  Perhaps some simple external FX pedals, or perhaps a Line 6 M9 or M13 multi-effect pedal?  then add to that a simple A/B switch which you would have to get separately to access both channels on the DT amp.  Set one to clean, the other to "insane", and you're ready to go.

        Just a suggestion.

PS - if you really want or need to spend a bunch of money on your guitar gear, why not use that money saved by going with my suggestion and getting yourself a second guitar like a PRS SE model guitar to go with your BC Rich NJ Series Deluxe Warbeast?

Monster cables are overrated. They also not a nice company. Snake Oil sellers. There are plenty of decent cables for a lot less.

And in no universe does gold make your USB quicker.

Re: Need some help please :)

My son and I tested several cables along with Monster cables in my studio one day. What a difference. Monster cables lost big time!

My son is into heavier music than I am. He lost tons of low end playing trough the Monster cables for guitar. Even the keyboard cable sounded bad. I believe it dropped the high end.

Musicians are strange creatures. They spend to much time talking about gear and worrying about whether an amp has tubes or not and never think to check the most sound altering thing their guitar goes through, the guitar cable.

              Seriously people, compare your cables!

Re: Need some help please :)

Putting the sales pitch in a bigger font doesn't make it fact. Yes gold is non-corrosive. Do you know how many corroded USB cables I've ever seen (and I see a lot of USB cables)? Exactly none. And you can't 'speed up' a data format - it works at the speed dictated by the format developers. It will also absolutely not improve digital audio in any shape or form.

Unless you're working near the sea front or regularly wash your USBs in the bath it's probably not a huge issue. Oh, and it's just the connector that's gold-plated - the cable will be just a regular cable.

Additionally, always be suspicious of any company that puts arrows on an audio cable indicating signal direction. This is rot and doesn't even follow any laws of science.
