Ok, so I pulled out the usb cord from the usb output on the POD today and the black piece in the middle fell out and looks like maybe it broke on the corner. Can I order this part from Line 6? I wouldn't really know how to fix this, would I take it to a computer repair shop maybe? I have the black piece and its hard to tell if its broken or not. I'm just not sure what to do. I can't hook up to the computer anymore! ahhh!
get a ticket bro! maybe is still under warranty and hopefully they will not charge you at all!!!
cheers man
Unfortunately its not under warranty.
It happens to the best of us, sadly your not alone in this happening..... If your holding the black piece consider it broken....The pins will become bent and your computer won't be able to recognize it anymore. Some have a had success having Line 6 repair it under warranty but as you stated it's not under warranty so you will have to have someone repair it.... I don't know that I would suggest a computer repair shop because most of those guys don't know squat about soldiering, which is what will have to happen...... I would try to go to someone who does electronic repair, maybe a Amp tech can do it....Take a look around here someone posted pictures of the inside board so maybe take those and see what he thinks first....Or again, Line 6 is an option, I wanna say it was around 200-250 for someone to have it replaced that had to pay out of pocket.... Please keep us updated....
Looking at the internal pics, it appears to be a standard shielded USB type B connector for PCB through hole mounting. There are many of these available from vendors such as Mouser, here's one example (not sure if this particular one would work however):
The part itself will cost well under $1. However, making sure a replacement would fit will be more difficult; if the manufacturer and part number are not on the part, I doubt Line 6 would tell us the manufacturers part number of the jack. If a tech knows what he is doing, he can measure the HD PCB and cross reference with different connectors' data sheet dimensions until he finds a suitable replacement that will fit the PCB and case opening, and has the proper pin configuration.
Another issue would be to find a technician competent to remove and replace the part; the PCB is what is know as multilayer (multiple layers of copper conductors inside of the board that are invisible from the outside). If a technician does not know what he is doing, he can ruin the PCB by damaging a component pin hole while removing the old part. The board would then possibly be destroyed.
I went through something like this when the pad switch on my old XT Live was broken, could not at all get part info from Line 6. But I was successful finding a replacement and installing it, then again I have been designing equipment PCB's for decades, and know how to specify parts to go on a PCB as well as repair them properly.
In summary, it would be possible to have a non- Line 6 tech fix the board, but he will really need to know what he is doing. It might be best to get the repair quoted by Line 6 if you do not know someone competent to do the job.
EDIT: Another thing you could try; if you have the part that broke, you might be able to carefully superglue it back. I'd try using gel superglue, use it sparingly, and carefully dry fit the broken piece before regluing it. Use just enough glue to hold the plastic where it separated, and try not to get it on the pins in the jack. Also, after fitting the part, wait an hour or so for the glue to fully set (superglue is supposed to be quick drying, but it's better to be safe than sorry).
He's surely not alone in this happening but I think he may be the first that's had it happen outside of warranty..... so I'll be interested to see what happens..
in one of the threads, someone talked about how to repair it yourself... not sure if I linked it or not. i seem to remember it wasn't as long as most of the threads.
I couldn't find the one you were talking about, just found the one that showed the board.

Look down about half way and you'll see the pictures...
I had the same issue. I followed the link above
http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/FCI/61729-1011BLF/?qs=zxzm42eeoPOXEPDZb4guCHr4XXm7q9HTzfbn0yXAQl4%3d and had a friend put in the new USB and it works great. I was lucky enough to know someone who has worked in instrumentation for years. He did a great job. Markbrid, thanks for the link.
Thanks for that link, now I know which USB to buy if mine breaks again.
