Roland Jazz Chorus JC120 Model for HD500?

The subject says it all. I really like my new HD500. The one thing I really miss, though is a model for a JC120. Didn't one of the older Pods have that model? Any word on whether Line6 will ever give us one for the HD's? I'm sure I can't be the only one who wants it.
Line 6 has not announced anything that would suggest that the JC-120 is on its way.
The Jazz Chorus is one of the amps I see requested pretty often. If L6 reads the support forums, there's a chance they may add it in as they've added in a bunch of amps since the HDs first came out.
They have not stated anything about it though to my knowledge, though it would definitely be an amp I would use if they added it in.
Man I want that amp so badly!! I miss it from GT-10 ![]()
Ya lots of people would love to have this amp model, including me. I wouldn't say they've added a bunch of amps since the HD500 first came out though. They've added 2 and some more channels to some of the models that were already there. That said, I'm not complaining, the models they have are working great for me. And since they added the cabinet DEPs, every amp model is useable. I'm back to square one just scratching the surface of what this unit is capable of. Of course, it took me seconds to tweak my existing patches because I pretty much had then where I wanted them. It's just that now I have to go back and revisit all the other models that I have been overlooking.
just an observational musing on my part... but i don't think that any solid state models are the HD500...
i'm probably just not calling them to mind... since i have limited knowledge of some of the authentic amps...
but perhaps there are some technical reasons why they haven't modeled those yet...
or perhaps they just aren't happy with the models they've gotten from solid state sources...
Given that these pods were meant to pair with the DT amp series, there would be no appropriate matching tube topology. I think that may be why no solid state models exist.
they did do the ampeg bass model... that's solid state.... but that came well after my initial statement.
Ampeg B15 FlipTop? That is tube based. link to Ampeg site: http://www.ampeg.com/products/heritage/b-15/
i guess i read some misinformation somewhere ![]()
The great thing about the pedal, for me, is its versatility. The band I'm playing with does a little of everything. Mostly, it's all there, and a punch to a new voice gets me set up for anything from Santana to blues to swing to Steely Dan to country. But, when the leader calls Stolen Moments, or Fly Me to the Moon, there's really nothing in the pedal that's right. The JC120 would fix that, and give it a lot more coverage.
L6, if you're reading this, please help us to love you that much more!
it's on my wishlist as well...
and i know they are aware of the communities desire for this model...
so i'm certain that its at the top of someones shortlist...
just don't expect new amp models to come quickly... they've just released a small amount with the updates here and there.
Just an observation ... all the current amp models on the HD500 work well with the DT50/DT25 amps, which have the 4 topology valve power section. If solid state models like the JC120 were added I'm not sure how authentic they would sound using a DT series amp, and this might confuse the "dream rig" marketing spin.
Saying that, the JTV acoustic models and the new bass model don't really work with the DT series either, so maybe it's not an isssue.
I'd like the JC120 model too :-)
I'd suggest simply using a tube comp and some EQ effects and using no amp. It'll get you a similar super-clean tone. Add a little chorus - now it's interesting.
I would say if they just came out with a clean preamp type model or if they not only included the new studio pre in the FX blocks but let it show up in the amp block as well so you could add a cabinet to it you could probably cover a lot of the ground that you would cover with the JC120. As Meambobbo points out a little chorus and your off to the races. This does present a nifty little challenge though, see if I can find some good JC120 sound samples on youtube or elsewhere on the net, and see if I can try to make a patch that sounds like it with what's in there.
Absolutely, a JC-120 would be great. Being a jazz player, I would also love a good Polytone sim.
I have owned every generation of POD since the very first one. They all had the JC on it. I LOVE the JC. I hated those models. I have heard some WONDERFUL jazz tones from the HD today. I like them so much... that I may continue my trend of POD ownership here. I was thinking about it before, but then remembered how 'blah' I felt about them in the past then promptly forgot about them. Now, since hearing these jazz tones, I am back on board.
This is a fella on the Jazz Guitar forum I frequent.
I am particularly fond of the Black Face Deluxe tone with the Ampeg a tight second and the Twin, while I like it, a distant third.

Ooh, I like the Ampeg simulation. Seems like a bass amp is the best bet for jazz guitar. Although, he never seems to play any mf-ff notes in that example, like some solid Wes-style octaves - I wonder how those models sound with a little more signal... though my jazz chops are not up to demonstrating that.
Actually, if you use the Gibtone model with the gain set very low (10%) and boost the overall output in the mixer with 10dB you get a great jazz tone. Set the bass and mids to two o'clock and turn the treble and prescence almost all the way off. I use the 4038 rbn mic model.
Roland jazz Chorus JC120 oh yeah! got to get this one!
Actually a Polytone Model would be preferred for a real warm archtop guitar. you can use a chorus effect for the rest.
In additon we just need a clean tone stack option for use with the five Pod HD Knobs.
using a tube pre works some time but it would be great to have the option to use a customisable tone stack - one where we
can choose the frequency centres for each of the bass mid treble and presence knobs ( wouldnt be any REAL presence on a pure EQ type tone stack. )
L6 - Its a real pain also to tweak EQ settings, whether in the editor or on pedal.
Cant we have some means to use the Knobs to adjust - say the fivebands of an equaliser ?.
Isn't it funny....no jc120 support after years of asking for it? Whats funny is that I just purchased an Apogee Jam and $5.00 dollar app (JamPro) for my iPad that has a JC120. It's funny how I can replace my $500 HD500 with a $5.00 app from the iTunes.
So funny, that I'm now selling my HD500. How much do you think I'll get for it....$5.00? How funny is that........
you could have bought an XT almost 10 years ago and had a JC120 sound too.... the fact that you waited until some kid in his basement labeled his latest app as such....
well that's where the funny comes in......
Funny? Sure is....it's hilarious that you would sell your HD500 because there is no JC-120!! Now the 5.00 app that has one included MUST be better than the HD due to the fact that it says "modeled" after a JC-120 so...It's GOT to be amazing sounding.
lmfao
It's really too bad that you made this post because I can see it getting pretty harsh on here for you. The fact is, those apps can be fun if you are travelling and have nothing else to play through but they really aren't gonna cut it in any real scenario. So no one is going to take your post seriously. If your only ever going to be sitting in you house playing through headphones or your stereo, maybe the HD500 is more than you need and an app will do the trick. But if you planning to play live I would really recommend you hang on to your HD. If you're get creative and learn how to use it you can get almost any tone you would ever need with models already in it. Of course it's nice to go straight to a known model to get started but if you think of it from the viewpoint of what sound do I want vs what amp and start looking at what you have already in the HD to craft your tone you'll come up with something. As a benefit you'll learn how to use your gear better.
This is hilarious actually. I can't even believe you are serious.
Enjoy your app. Sounds like a real professional rig you have now.
Really?
yup, confirmed on my end. looks like an accurate assesment, jason knows his cr*p apparently ![]()
I miss the JC Amp, so bad, we need Line 6 make a patch
me too... but wait until you get the soldano clean channel.. you might miss it a little less (its already on the hd300/400)
Tube Comp + Mid-Focus EQ + Parametric EQ + Analog Chorus = squeaky clean, JC-like tone.
Seriously, all you need is some compression and to roll off some high-end and voila, you've got the Jazz Chorus tone.
Patch or it didn't happen. ![]()
OH IT HAPPENED!!!!

Notice I'm combining a Twin Reverb with the no amp tone, but if you mute that, you'll get the super clean tone I'm talking about. Either way, this is a super sparkly clean tone on its own.
all I want to see new amps in the next firmware update in the POD HD 500
like Roland Jazz Chorus
not likely... given that we know what the hd300 people got for amps... i think that's what we can safely expect...
not to mention that all of the amps except for the ampeg bass model, that have been modeled to date, are tube amps...
meaning i think that's where there focus is...
i need to try meambobbos tone above, and hopefully that will get us close...
i know the jc120 is often requested, so it will likely happen eventually...
i just don't think that the immediate future is likely.
its a shame ![]()
Well Jim Soloway can do nice clean sounds with the Fender emulations, like in
http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=1131400
I don't play clean often but I think you can get really good clean sounds out of these models...
Here is my attempt at a JC-120 emulation. Feel free to comment and critique.
What I find novel would be a Jazz Chorus PRE going through the valve power amp of a DT amp. A 100% tranny amp being emulated through an amp with valves in it. Something just seems completely @rse about with that. ![]()
