HD500 USB is interfering with SPDIF! Is this normal behavior?

Recently I started using the SPDIF out and I just noticed that when I unplg the USB cord from the POD, the volume to the SPDIF out is muted (not the balanced out or XLR). When I plug the USB back the volume comes back. I thought it could be the Driver settings, but it's not in my case because I checked and the "record Volume" is not muted. If anyone uses the SPDIF, please test and see if this is the behavior you get. I tried resetting the hardware by powering on as I pressed the left arrow, but no dice this time. I do recall having this problem in earlier firmware and I resolved it by resetting the hardware, but this time, I'm not sure if this is the intended design to mute the SPDIF. I highly doubt that's the case but who knows? Does anyone know how to fix this,. It can't be right that I can't use the SPDIF out, unless I plug the USB to the PC with Line6 driver.
That does not sound normal, and I don't get that problem here. Have you checked to see if maybe you have the "Hardware Monitor Level" slider turned down? This is in the Inputs & Recording tab of the Line 6 audio - MIDI Settings panel. If this slider were turned all the way left, then it would ALWAYS mute your monitor output (regardless if you are USB connected or not), but maybe you are hearing the USB Record Send signal when you are connected to your computer's USB (such as if you have a DAW app open and the track is set to monitor your POD HD Input into the track). Make sense?
Thanks for taking the time. I did already check the level monitor slider in the driver's page and it's not to the left. That was the firtst thing I checked. What you say makes alot of sense, I still think it's something that happened due to communication with the driver.
This is just an update:
Problem not fixed yet, I reinstalled the firmware but still when I unplug the USB the volume disappears from the SPDIF. the funny thing is that I don't have to plug the usb completely to get the sound , barely touching the USB cable end to the immediate area of where the USB input is in Pod will bring the sound back as long at their touching, but ofcourse I plug it in to get the sound. That's unbelievable becasue as I did mention earlier, in the earlier firmware I had a similar problem that was fixed by using the Left arrow as you power up, but I will not go back to older firmware just to fix this! Anyone has an idea of what else I can try?
Are you doing this plugging/unplugging while the POD is on? IMO, the unit is probably not expecting that connection to be severed and when that happens, it's interfering with the SPDIF signal. Just a theory, as we haven't seen this, but worth a try.
Thanks Tony, but I have already done that and I tried it again after reading your reply. IF I unplug the usb the SPDIF output is muted. What I did I Unplugged the USB when the unit wasn't powered and then turned it on still no SPDIF sound. My guess is that it's a Driver issue since plugging any usb cable doesn't restore the sound, it has to be connected to the same computer with the HD500 Line 6 driver. By the way I have my soundcard spdif SYnc setup external so it follows the POD (which is the recommended option by line 6)
In the end of the day it's not a amajor issue for me becuase to use the SPDIF I plug the USB (which is mostly plugged anyway), it's just a little concerning that the unit is not operating in a normal state or as expected. I still love the sounds I'm getting, but hope at some point I can resolve this.
