Chorus & Flanger

Hello again.

I had a PODHD300, sold it and plan on buying another or a 500 next week.

Its been a while but I think I'm correct in saying that I can't get Chorus & Flanger effects at the same time, right?

Would the 500 allow me to ?

Thanks

Jeff

    300 no

    500 yes

The 500 allows a flexible FX chain only limited to how much processing power you have available depending on the other FX and amp combinations in the chain.

The 300 has FX in fixed positions and will only allow 1 modulation FX in the chain

On the 500 I have 1 preset that has a  chorus and flanger - I could have them switched on at the same time but don't. I just have them ready for use. Also in the chain (in order) Noise Gate, wah, tube screamer, Bogner Uber (Amp), Chorus, Flanger, Delay Reverb. - Think you get the picture.

With the HD500 you can enjoy eight flangers at the same time if you wish (and DSP limits allow).   Let's all play Cocteau twins!

The HD500 will be familiar but is much more flexible so there may be a bit of a learning curve I'm afraid.  WIth that said: If you have 300 knowledge then you are well on the way.

The Desktop and HD500 have the same amps and effects but the HD500 does way better on the inputs and outputs and MIDI.   Link here refers --> http://line6.com/podhd/multi-effects/compare.html

My take is, if you have the room for it in the studio, the HD500 is a better proposition if you need flexibility and performance control.  Otherwise the desktop has the convenience of size.

Knowing the desktop is the same as the 500 should be the one for me.

That is if the desktop HD takes all the 500 presets ?

Eeeeh .. yeah, kind of.  Transfer of presets between the various HD models is not fully supported by Line 6 but in practice people do and it works.  Usually you can just change the file extension and off you go.   No guarantees that this would not get broken in a future firmware update though.   You also need to take care with things like dual input patches and things like that within patches where the Desktop doesn't do that.   Often you can use HD Edit for the unit that you don't own and remove the things that might make the patch not work on your unit.

There is also currently an issue where some patches don't work because of the measures put into firmware 1.43 and beyond to cure a 'squealing' problem that effected some users.   Finally, you cannot use HD3/400 patches on the 500/desktop/pro cause the internal architectures are different.
