Recordings using UX2 are extremely quiet, help me!

Hello all,
I'm currently trying to record some demos with my ukulele. I am recording on my desktop which runs Windows XP. I'm using a Line 6 UX2, a preamp and Audacity to record some nice straight forward tunes. My problem is the volume at which the input is being recorded; it's very low. This means I have to whack up the gain after I've made the recordings which is obviously no good as that means lots of hissing and stuff.
My ukulele runs through an external preamp ( which is an L. R. Baggs Para Acoustic D.I.) and the preamp volume is pretty much of full. The Output knob on the UX2 is also on full but I still get these really quiet recordings. This happens when I'm recording just using Audacity as well as when I have Pod Farm running too.
What's happening here!? Does anyone have any tips or ideas?
Many thanks in advance for any help you can offer!
Cheers,
Jack.
don't care for audacity... but check the control panel, there should be a line6 option that will allow you to +18 and that may help.
typically for guitar the low volume is a good thing... allows for more post processing options.
but i can see where that isn't likely to apply here.
Are you recording with the UX2 via USB or analog outs to your computer's sound card?
I'm recording via USB.
Are you selecting the UX2 ASIO as your device in your DAW?
Are you aware of the dry and wet sends?
Sends 1/2 are dry and 3/4 are wet (or vise-versa)
Yeah, the UX2 is selected as the input.
I think that's as detailed as it gets on Audacity, there doesn't seem to be a device manager or anything like that.
I'm afraid I've no idea about dry and wet sends.
I am not too familiar with Audacity., but when you insert and arm a track to record, for the input source of the track their should be sends 1 thru 4 from your UX2 available.
Stay in the mix and in the know.
