I think Line 6 should model these amps for the HD 500:

Re: POD HD 500 - New amps

I would like to see the entire amp modeled for each of the amps already in the HD. It's great to have a duel rectifier lead channel but if I want to clean up the sound I have to change to a different model amp which has a completely different tonal character. That means having to really tweak the clean model so that it doesn't sound so shockingly different when switching in and out of presets. Another added function would be to have each preset remember its effects status when switching in and out. Double pressing the patch button would set the patch to its original configuration.

Not sure if it's available, but I'd love a solid Adam Jones (Tool) tone. In order to get that, we'd need models similar to a '76 Marshall Super Bass amp, and a Diezel VH4 Blue Face.

Unless anyone knows how to get close to his tone from existing models on the HD500? Only a couple compatible patches available on CustomTones...

Hi - I'm not sure if you are referring to the bassist in Tool or the guitarist, but if it is the bassist...I have a POD HD500 or HD PRO patch you could use to get the sound from the album with "Sober" on it.  If you are interested, I can either give you a step by step instruction with I'd refer not to do, or simpler would be just to email or post publicly here a link to the patch I'm referring to.

I'll be back on here Monday night in case you or anyone else might want this patch for playing a real gritty bass sound using their HD50 or HD PRO unit as the preamp if plugging into any stage gear, or full amp model if running direct to PA w/o stage gear.

If interested, all I need to make certain it will work as I expect would be to know how you are running your POD HD unit into whatever gear you are getting your sounds from.  Please just include what amp/cab you are running into - thanks.

    Take care,

    Neal

Re: POD HD 500 - New amps

Just curious - is that a Marshall 8x10 guitar cab lying sideways on the floor in your gear photo?

If it is, I'm very jealous as I that was part of my very first Marshall amp I bought back in 1975 with a 50w Plexi head.  I used it many years for guitar only, then when I started playing bass in a prog rock band back in 1982, I used that head and cab as my bridge pick-up sound from my 1978 4001 Ric-O-Sound split pick-up jack.  The neck pick-up was an Acoustic 360 head into a pair of Cerwin-Vega V30s re-loaded with EV 15"s and an attenuators for the built in horns.

What a terrific (but back breaking with a large stage footprint) bass rig that was to get any sound by Chris Squire, Geddy Lee, Dave Hope (although I had to clean it up a bit more for his sound), and the bassist from the band Starcastle whose name I cannot thin of right now.

    1) ADA MP-1 (come on!! This thing is incredible not only for metal but bluesy and clean tones too!! how could they stop selling this and none brand has tried to emulate/imitate or re-issue it??)

    http://dds90.altervista.org/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/ada-mp1.JPG

Thare a few companies that make single or double rack space preamps like this ADA MP-1.  I also do have the original huge (10 I think) red & black button MIDI footswitch.

The first unit that comes to mind in it's original form (original has a black faceplate with a green Chameleon logo) as the reissues never did quite sound the same.  The Rocktron Chameleon.  No 12AX7 tube, but it does have some terrific clean sounds, as well as balls out heavy sounds. Not much in the way of in-between which is why I paired it up with a Marshall JMP-1 preamp for just those sounds.  MIDI-d them together to switch presets together and one took the "lead" depending on what type of sound I needed.  Both ran into my Marshall 9100 4-space all tube - dual voice - Power amp into a pair or 1960B cabs.

Another newer unit that does use a tube preamp as well as solid state are from Zoom, and Genz-Benz that I am aware of.  I'd bet there are others, but am not familiar with them.

And for super MIDI foot controllers like the ADA controller, Digitech has one and well as Roland. The Roland is better but much more expensive.

I hope this info helps you in any way possible.

PS - everyone including myself who had this unit had to have two units because of the nearly 1/2 second delay between patches.  They were run in tandum with only one controller for both, but you had to add a MIDI switch between them to go back and forth from one preamp to the other.  Nuno used these as well as many other really execellent guitarists, but always had at least two because of it's delay switching patches.

Probably cannot satisfy everyone. It would be great if it were possible to download only your favorite amps from a wider choice.

    I miss:

    Dumble Overdrive Special Drive Channel,

    Matchless Chieftain and

    85 Mesa/Boogie Mark IIc+ Clean Channel

    from POD 2.0.

Therefore, I cannot decide whether to buy HD.

Re: POD HD 500 - New amps

After 11 pages the same names keep coming up, and this post's been around a long time. I'm surprised they don't have these available. EVERYONE wants a...

    Peavey 5150/6505+

    Mesa/Boogie Mark IV and a IIC+

    Soldano Slo 100

    Some Deizels

    etc

I thought the addition of the Blackstar Series One 200 WITH ISF CONTROL was a great idea too.

    (If they weren't mentioned already, I'd personally like a JCM900, and a JCM2000)

The masses are clamouring for some more high gain models. The 3 or 4 that's including are pretty great, but Line 6 really needs to add the amps above to round it out, and really appeal to the metal guys. I'm buying one of these because it seems like a no brainer that they have to be working on them (or rapping up R&D on them) and will at some point deliver them, however, if they really want to heat up their sales numbers they would launch these models sooner than later. I'm sure there are a bunch of rackgear lovin' metalheads like me who are waiting to see the highgain lineup expand before they pull the trigger, or are waiting for one of the aforementioned models to show up because that's THEIR favorite tone.

So what are you waiting for Line 6? Get'r'dun!
