Trying to record with studio monitors on a UX2, but...

The sound coming out of my monitors which are connected to the UX2 are about twice the sound of the recording when I run Pod Farm through FL Studio.  I did some troubleshooting and disabled the sound for the channel I had Pod Farm on in FL Studio and the sound still came from the external Pod Farm application.  I'm wondering if I am doubling up on the sound coming through my monitors and am also wondering if there is a way to disable the sound from the standalone Pod Farm and only have the sound come through my FL Studio DAW?

    Hi,

I am not sure I have understood what is happening. Are you saying that just running standalone with no daw at all, you get a double sound?

If so, I'd take a look in standalone and go to mixer view and see that the 'D.I.' is turned right down far left on level and delay. If the di was on, it would give the clean guitar signal too and so sound like two versions of the guitar.

Concerning what you said about disabling standalone etc. I am not sure if you are recording with both pf plugin in daw on and pf standalone on at the same time, or whether you are doing something else.

When I record, I open my recording programme and don't use any pod farm plugin in the programme while recording. I select the track and input I want and then turn the track's volume right down and record. I open Pod Farm standalone to give me the sound of my guitar as I play. This sound is pretty close to no delay, whereas if I used the plugin version of pod farm in the recording programmeDAW, I would get a delay which would affect my ability to play, as it would play the sound noticably after my striking the strings. If I put both versions of pod farm on, I get the original signal and a second signal slightly delayed. Just tried it to see what it would sound like. It actually gives quite a nice added delay sound to the original sound , but by just turning the sound right down of that track or not having a plugin on that track when recording, makes it sound right again. Then I put the plugin on the track afterwards when listening back to it etc.

If the double sound is still happening after trying di etc., even without the daw being on, then I'd have to have another think about what that could be.

    Hope you get it working,

    God Bless,

    David

You can have the sound go thru your DAW only. But as hulbert points out, if you monitor the POD Farm plug-in in real time, there will be too much latency.

Are you recording wet, dry or both?

You should have sends 1 thru 4 available, 1/2 are wet and 3/4 are dry.

I typical record both wet and dry while monitoring the wet via the UX2 and add the plug-in to the dry recording post processing.

If this is what you are doing in FL and you are feel it is not "as loud" check your levels in FL and your Window's mixer.

The 2 sliders in POD Farm controls the wet sound from the standalone (Direct Tone Monitoring). Sends  3/4(dry)  are not affected in any way by the POD Farms mixer, it is just the unprocessed signal passed to your DAW. If you record sends 1/2 (wet) you should be recording exactly what you hear (with the exception of the master volume of the UX2).

When you select UX2 in FL, are you selecting ASIO Line6 UX2?

When you are recoding are you monitoring the other tracks to hear the relative levels?

I have also been running podfarm into fl studio 10 while recording for my tracks and noticed when I record I hear the clean guitar and the podfarm preset with my current effects giving it my desired sound. The clean is more pronounced than my effects but during play back I only get the effects and np clean, which is what I want but I'm confused as to why I hear the clean guitar at all when I would rather only hear just  my effects coming from podfarm so I can have a better understanding of my actual sound while I'm doing the actual recoding for the track since  I usually always have it played back live through monitors while I record. I'm also using the ux2 along with podfarm 2.5 as a vat in fl studio. I do have the option to use reason 6.5 which has a bas and guitar pod xt rack instrument plugin.
