POD HD300/400 Users: 14 weeks and counting...

By my count, it has been 14 weeks (more than 1/4 of a year) since V2.0 was released and still we (HD300/400 users) wait for our update. Coming soon my arse!
Any of the Line6 guys around to provide an official update as to when or if an update is actually coming? If it is, will it contain the same feature set as the 500/pro release?
If its going to be a while or be a reduced feature set release you might as well let us know now.
the hardware is different... so perhaps not all the features will come over... but i'm sure that if they are taking their time... they're going to make it worth the wait.
Let us remember that it's been nearly 6 months total since the initial announcement of POD HD v2.0. At this point, "coming soon" for HD300 & 400 users is a definitive false-advertisement. Doesn't matter what the platform or hardware may be, six months is an absurdly long time to wait for an announced software update.
I take it the developers hadn't even begun working on the HD300 & 400 v2.0 prior to releasing it for the 500, PRO and desktop?
It won't have all the features since many of them are not applicable to the 300. However, the cab DEPs could be especially useful since the equalizing options on the 300 are so limited. Also, the new plexi models seem to be really popular.
Which features are you talking about? The main ones I thought were the vintage mic pre, the Plexi, and the cab DEP's. All of those SHOULD be implemented.
I've nearly given up hope on Line 6's development team...or there's some kind of bureacracy that no one wants to deal with to actually develop and release anything. They need to have open betas or to just make a devkit and let 3rd parties write their firmware.
I like the open beta and devkit ideas. The devkit would be particularly interesting if it was done correctly (not like the tonecore pedal kit).
To those who pointed it out, I realize there are some 2.0 features that are impossible to port due to hardware restrictions. I should have limited my question to the new amp models and cab DEP features.
Rich was all over the TGP boards back in March touting this new release and not a peep since.
There is a definite lack of "friendliness" as of late from Line 6. Does anyone remember George VanW......? He was awesome and very helpful.
No one even comes here to offer hope that anything new is being developed for the POD HD series. I have joked about it before, but I feel awefull for 300 and 400 users to have to wait this long and not be given any hope. Anyway, just my 2 cents on the current state of Line 6.
I really feel they are missing a huge opportunity by not continuing to improve on the HD series and letting the users know that more is coming.
Anyway, they need to get someone to do PR for them for sure.

Rich Renkin is actually no longer at Line 6. So that is why he isn't commenting on these forums any more.
Regarding the update for the 300/400, just rest assured that Line 6 hasn't forgotten about this. That's all I can say at the moment.
yikes - rich was one of the most helpful people on their staff
I'm refering to the upgrades for the Variax knobs, Toggle Switch Behaviour etc.. The 300 doesn't have a variax input.
ah yes - makes sense, but no one with a 300 should be waiting for such features either, hehe. i can only imagine the cab DEP's are using more DSP than able to keep the 300/400 realtime so they have to optimize anything they can to get it back in spec, OR they basically shelved it and have the team working on other things.
Yikes!!
That thought never occurred to me.
That will be very disappointing if the 300 upgrade doesn't include cab DEPs.
While it is nice to hear all the optimism from the L6 Expert Users here I would still like an offical update from someone employed by Line6. Afterall this is a company sponsored support forum for their product. Am I asking too much?
they have no time, they are too busy with the product software updates....
it is the company support forum... and if you have issues with the current released software it is a great resource...
the support guys... are not the same as the developers... and honestly they don't always know where things are in progress or what challenges the developers are having... they do know who to ask of course... but asking and answering takes the developers away from their work...
all of the experts have non-disclosure agreements... so even if we knew something we couldn't say...
but if you are seeing optimism... you can probably take that as a good thing. ![]()
Not that it would do any good, but I would be PO'ed too if I owned the 3/400...
I feel for you 300/400 users on having to wait this long AFTER the 500 softwares release.
Like Zap said, (and i Hope) its worth your waiting frustration levels...
hang in there and just be glad its not a Vetta... ; )

If so- Most good engineers would have added in "extra" amounts of Ram into the design, just for these later updated adds and patches. At least the ones without a budget axed pocketbook from the beginning would... It seem they did do this for the Spider Amps.... ; ) I mean, Just think what an extra 512 meg of ram would have allowed the 500 to do, in creating our patches... No more DSP limits im thinking. And what is a 512 meg stick these days, 5 bucks if that much??? I'll give them the a small excused benefit by saying hindsite is 20/20... That is, if so and YMMV as always....
I feel that very soon we will have the update, I'm quite confident before the end of this yeat or 1st quarter of the next, but maybe I'm too optimistic.....
i am patient ![]()

And the count will be at an even dozen weeks on Thursday
. Hopefully we won't be counting much longer.
Line6 - us consumers of your products were told there would be a 2.0 update by the end of the 1st quarter of 2012. The 2nd quarter is basically over and we STILL do not have an update.
I think it is reasnable for us to expect some update from your PR dept regarding the status at this point. HD500/PRO users have had this update for MONTHS...where is ours?

See what I did with this discussion? I provided a status update. Not that hard Line6, you should give it a try.
Sadly, you are not going to make them (Line 6) do anything they are not ready to do. 1st off, they already have our money, and the past has proved to them (and the rest of equipment makers) that anything thats new and thats sparkles..., we will buy of in bulk and then whine later that it does not do what it was supposed to or needs added features. They know this, because we have done it time and time again. Very few makers of our toys make something that is near perfect, out of the box. Why? because we GOTTA HAVE IT NOW! And so there is lots of money to be made and bills to get paid from our impatience... They are doing exactly what we wanted... RELEASE THE DAMN THING. So can Line 6 think of everything before release? In fairness no, but the point is that we have created a situation in the buyers market where they dont have to. And Blowing snot bubbles after they have your money mean little to anyone these days, because they "all" know that our memories are very short and washed away by the next "big" thing released. Meaning that we do not hold them to the standards we demand before the sale, only after... We "allow" this to happen and are our own worst enemies. That said- Line 6 with all its faults makes a pretty good line of products (yes that need tweaking and updates done to them), in which I am sure they will get to, In their "own" sweet time. And that is only when they decide, not us... And do not forget, only for a finite amount of time. Until the next big thing, at which time our now coveted HD's will be tossed in to the pile with our Vetta's...... I mean after all, they have to eat too ya know... sigh... Again, i think we are to blame for the "buy before its done" mindset these days, not them... ![]()
Spikey, I completely understand what you are saying and agree with you. They already have my money and they are not getting any more out of me (or any current user) by releasing these updates. If they want to keep me as a customer however it would be nice if they would provide at least a minimum level of customer support. They announce they are providing a major update at the beginning of the year then release the update for select users three months later. The rest of us are told "coming soon" and hear absolutely nothing for over three months now.
If you read back through my posts you will see that I'm not demanding the firmware update be released now. In fact I have no problem waiting even longer as long as they do get it right. As an alread-paid customer however I would like a status update that goes beyond a couple of board moderators blowing sunshine (NOTE: comment is not to be taken as a slight against the L6 expert users).
I disagree.
They made a promise of the update and we expect it in a timely fashion. 1/2 a year+ is not a timely software release.
Yes, they have our money already. However, many of us will have this situation in the back of our minds when it comes time to buy a new piece of gear.
I know quite a few people that returned a PODHD becuase of lack of control over the low end (that the DEP editing should help with). So not all consumers fit into your catergory of buy before it is done. And with a piece of gear like the HD, it can take beyond the average 30 day return policy to understand what the limitations of the piece of gear are. You could easliy spend 30 days trying to tweak the thing to get a few really good tones.
I for one do not have short term memory loss, you can be sure 5 years from now, I'll remember this "delay" for the update.
(never a Vetta owner myself.....the HD is the only amp modeling they have released that was "good enough" for me to use, personally)
Personally, I'm looking forward to the Plexi model and the DEP editing.
It does seem to be taking them a while. I own the smallest Fender Mustang, too, and while I much prefer the Line 6 HD models to those, I will say that in the 1 1/2 years I've owned that amp, they've had several software upgrades, including adding a few features that we requested in the forums! With the exception of the Fender models, the HD is my clear preference, but Fender seems pretty responsive to customer desires, as long as they are within reason...well, there is one issue folks don't seem to be getting satisfaction on, but apart from that...
line6 has almost 100 products, so they have argument for delay, they can ignore our dissapointment
The count-up continues
.
Would be nice if someone from Line 6 would confirm that Facebook post on this forum. Just sayin'
jimsreynolds, thanks for the link. I agree with your statement in that thread. That is a rather bold statement given the history of this release. Let's hope they follow through on it.
bclarke, you hit the nail on the head. That is they type of update I have been looking for. I'm sure there are others who frequent this board are also looking for this information. It gets casually posted on the Facebook page (which I do not use) but no official word here. I'm done trying to figure out how things get done at L6.
Yeah, well I think there seems to be solid evidence that the update is coming. I understand the frustration of people who have been waiting for the update for a while but I am also a special kind of bored of hearing people banging the table too.
Perhaps we should have a two week moratorium on the subject and then take stock. ??????????
That might make sense if they hadn't also promised a 1st quarter release....and here we are in the 3rd Q, with no actual update. Just another statement that it is expected within 2 weeks.
I'lll believe it when we get it, and speculate, provide constant reminders until then. ![]()
The two week statement was made on July 6th, so I figure they have another 7 days to make good on the statement.
Ok, fair enough. Well, for the next couple of weeks you will find me elsewhere looking at the everything else
If Im not mistaken, this is the place to vent on things like this isnt it?
It says, community/support/pod support/ Pod HD in the tree above.
Maybe it should read Community/Support/Pod Support/ Whiney people just go away cause yer irritating.... ![]()
Ok ok I know its not funny for you guys waiting... Suxs big in fact...
And If I were thinking of buying a 3/400 I sure wouldnt purchase until the patch is dropped after reading this.
This has to be costing them sales wise plenty for the delays too, but they may not have a choice...
Bad situation for all it seems...
.....
Nope, I am still not here.
On a positive note, maybe they are combining extra amps and goodies in with the updates (for us all) and need an extra week for that?
Wishing out loud will wake people up, so be it.... ![]()
mighty good guess.... couldn't let on... but the SLO was worth the wait....
+1 SLO
Also, this did make it within the time frame that was put on the Facebook post. So I guess we need to check there for the upcoming HD500/bean/Pro update?!?
Surprised noone has said anything.....
now that its RELEASED!
POD HD300/400 Flash Memory v2.01 is a FREE firmware update that is highly recommended for all POD HD400 users.
----------------------------------------------------------
What’s New? POD HD400 2.01 includes seven new HD guitar amp models, one HD bass amp model (with matching cab + eight mic model choices) and two new FX models; an advanced noise gate and vintage-voiced mic preamp model.
How do I download it?
Connect your POD HD to your computer, run Line 6 Monkey and follow the directions.
Love it. Not only do I get the Marshall Plexis, but also the Soldanos and Ampeg. Can't wait to try them out! Also, curious about the new Line 6 models...sound promising!
Well I'm glad we didn't get to 15 weeks! Nice update, the new amps sound great. Hopefully we get the DEP options in the next release.
My condolences go out to the HD 500/pro/desktop users who are now on the clock for the additional amp updates. Hopefully "soon" is really "soon" this time.
Those who have patience get great things!!!!
Agreed. Updated mine yesterday while I gave lessons. Easy and I am not a computer guy by any means. I can however follow directions. I loved my HD300 already and am looking forward to incorporating some of the new feature set into my kit bag. Zoom-Digitech-Boss etc...I have owned and gigged them all at Churches-concert stages-clubs etc...and these HD units kill them.I have owned and played tube amps and pedals since I was 12 years old so I know what a Hiwatt-Marshall-Fender -Vox should sound like.If you have never owned or used the real thing I suggest listening to some old recordings of these amps to help you get a realistic tone out of your HD. Have Fun!
