POD X3 Problem

I have a POD X3, last week at a sound gig a friend decided to get my POD out to try to figure out how to run it through the effect loop for the board to get some basic effects. (unknown to me) Of course he has never used a POD and just pressed buttons until the "vocal" setting came up. When I got my POD out to play a show my tones were "lost" and  it took me a while to figure out how to get back to my settings. Now whenever I change my tones the asterisk shows up on the screen as if something has changed on my tones that needs saved. I have reloaded the saved tones from my computer and resaved to the POD. It seems to be saving the tone, but the asterisk still appears whenever i change the channel. Any insight in to what he has done to my POD? I play professionally and cant have this thing going screwy on me at a gig again.

Thanks!
