Being a new user, questions like yours grab my attention.
I found this from an old variax 300 Pilot's manual on line.
NOTE: If you have batteries installed in your Variax,
they will be bypassed when using your XPS. If the
guitar is connected to the XPS and the XPS power
is disconnected, any batteries installed in the Variax
will be drained.
My JTV handbook doesn't specifically state that.
Looks like a matter of paying attention if the battery remains in the compartment.
Yes, this is a fact now, many users reported it, as soon as you plug in a 1/4 inch jack the battery get drained out even if it is a stereo jack connected to the XPS and the XPS won't recharge it, so I guess it is better to use one or the other.
The manual probably do not state it because Line 6 stop making the XPS and they aren't included with JTV variax anymore since the battery has way more capacity than they use to have in the older model.
