    Re: Flesh for Fantasy rig?

Doesnt appear to be a tone for it on customtone.  I am assuming you are talking about the heavily modulated tone in the first verse and onwards rather than the crunch used in other parts right

    Major elements I am hearing:

    • Single coil guitar, probably a strat with the bridge/middle pickups selected.  Alternatively a Telecaster in the mid position ... and a locking trem fitted !!!
    • Very clean amp.   Try one of Meambobbos methods here -> http://foobazaar.com/podhd/toneGuide/gettingStarted#pureClean (or if you have an HD3/400, the new Soldano clean)
    • Heavy compression, possibly the red or blue ones on the HD.
    • At least one chorus, possibly two layered.  Try messing with the Dimension, Analog and Tri-chorus and see if one or two of these can get the right kind of modulation.
    • Not much in the way of reverb.  Possibly a very short digital delay - around 20ms, mix around 50%, feedback at 0%,
    • A little EQ boost in the 2-8 K range I reckon.
    • Really, Really big hair

There are occasional reverb and delay interjections, presumably integrated during post production, that come in and out of the mix.

        Re: Flesh for Fantasy rig?

I tried a 5-minute shot for my POD HD 500. I don't know if you like it, but no risk no fun.

This preset works for my strat in middle position, with headphones on. So it is a studio direct sound, not an optimized sound for connecting to a real amp.

        Here my thoughts:

        - EQ to add high frequencies / lower mids

        - Vintage preamp: I use no amp sim. Preamp makes the sound vintage somehow, and I took away the bass frequencies.

        - Modulation: Dimension as main modulation sound, Pitch Vibrato to simulate that whammy sound, Barepole Phase to add a slow motioned modulation

        - Blue Comp to add a hard compression

        - Stereo Delay to get the big stereo sound (room), but also to add a little noticeable delay

        - '63 Spring to add a vintage spring reverb

It is not a mistake. I choose the compressor behind the modulation because it sounds more vintage. But you can also try to move it before the mod fx.

To try the sound for HD EDIT rename the attached file from .txt to .h5e

Slooky, please tell me how do you think about it?

Buy a used Rockman. . . lol. Steve Stevens tracked that with a Rockman for the demo and they just used the demo track because they dug it. You may try using heavy compression that tom scholtz was famous for. Jamply.com has a lesson from steve showing all the parts to that tune. . .

I searched Jamply.com and have found it here, but didn't watch it because I don't want to sign up a membership now.

      http://www.jamplay.com/guitar-lessons/songs/artist/184-billy-idol/2783-2-flesh-for-fantasy

      http://www.jamplay.com/guitar-lessons/artists/154-steve-stevens/2754-1-rock-improvisation

Of course, learning it originally from Steve is the best. I only tried to listen myself and to transport it to the POD HD 500 without the need buying an old used Rockman.

If Slooky is a big fan of Billy Idol or of this kind of sound, he may think about it, but if it was just an idea playing this song because he likes it, the original Rockman would be a little bit exaggerated.

But toasterdude, great site for learning guitar tricks I think. Maybe I'll sign up a membership later.

        Re: Flesh for Fantasy rig?

Would love a Rockman amp model(s) (clean and dirty channels). Several of the tracks I layed down in the 80's and early 90's were using a Rockman XP100 and it was an incredible system...would be hard to model without including a model of the compressor since it was such an integral part of the amp and there isn't a compressor in the POD series that really captures the same 'feel' of the Rockman. I've owned every modeler out there and none of them have a really good Rockman sim....they try but it is never the right sound/feel.

I would always do my demos with the Rockman and then have producers that would try to get the same tone/feel out of my live rigs and tube amps and so often they would give up and have me track the final tracks (usually clean tracks and solos...the rhythm never cut as well so we used tube amps for those sounds) with the Rockman.

Getting rid of the XP100 was one of the gear liquidations I wish I had never done.

Your're welcome! I'm happy you can use it as a base.

I always find it important that people who are loading tones from customtone later modify the sound to their personal needs and equipment.

Yep - I think most tones would need a bit of tailoring for guitars, amp setup etc and slooky, if you think you are pretty close then perhaps you could upload the tone to Customtone as a resource for others to download

              Re: Flesh for Fantasy rig?

Hey Slooky, still doesn't work? Please try again. I can remember another user whose uploads did not appear.

Normally, first login to Line6, go to cutomtone page and click the RED "Upload Tone", then browser for the File, then click the GREY "Upload Tone" button.

Now it should already appear. To make it perfect browse to your tone and edit all important information like firmware number, date, comments, etc.

Customtone knows by itself for which device the tone is by the file format.

                  Re: Flesh for Fantasy rig?

People cannot download it, because we can't find your tones. You don't need to search inside HD500. For proofing your own files, you must be unlogged and just search for "Slooky". But the result is empty.

I don't know how 15 people could download your files. Maybe it was you.

You are the 2nd person I know where exactly this happens. There must be something wrong with your profile. Can you try to change some values of your profile and store them?

If it doesn't help, maybe there is something wrong with their websites / servers.

Please open a support ticket. Before you follow the link, please login, or you will be prompted to do so.

                  http://line6.com/support/tickets/add.html

Or you can try to open another new ticket inside this forum first like: UPLOADED TONES ON CUSTOMTONE DO NOT APPEAR

--->> QUESTION: Is there anybody / EXPERT USER / who can find / download the tones?
