DT25 went mad, cut out, no sound!

I've also added this as a ticket so will see what Line 6 say to me but thought I'd raise the question here, see if anyone has eperience of the same problem, and what the cause/fix is...

Turned DT25 on and played a few notes.

Then switched to channel B and I heard a weird boomy feedback.

Then nothing - no sound at all.

Put it back to standby and then back on again - still no sound.

Tried Low volume and full volume - still nothing.

Neither channel produced any sound at all.

Turned the power off and started again - now working fine.

Very concerned about an intermittent fault that could be nightmare at gigs.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

These amps are a computer and vave amp combined.  Just like any computer there might be the occasional glitch often caused by dirty power (odd frequencies, spikes, short dropouts, etc.).  If gigging, it's wise to use a power conditioner, or better still a UPS.  This will keep the power clean and constant.  Also make sure you don't put things like mobile phones on top of the amp.  If you get a glitch the only remedy is usually a reboot, so prevention is better than cure.

    Cheers,

Re: Power Conditioner ... I did that very thing on Spaceati's advice. Bought the Tripp Lite LC1200 AVR system, Killer. Good advice from Crusty.

I don't have any experience with tube amps, but does doesn't really sound like a tube issue.  I would agree with geppert and Crusty.

Can someone with Tube experience chime in with whether this could be a tube issue or not?  I would expect a tube issue to be more consistent right?

I build valve amps, it's highly unlikely it's a valve issue.

          Bartpulise,

If the heaters on the valves aren't on then it's going to be the 6.3V AC (2 x 3.15V) taps on the power transformer.  The heaters are typically wired in parallel so if a heater fails on one valve it doesn't break the circuit to the heaters on the other valves.  So, if all valves don't have their heaters on, it has to be the power supply  (power transformer) and definitely not the output transformer which transforms the voltage from the power amp valves to the speakers.

          Cheers,

If the tubes aren't heating up more than likely it's the output xfmr. Send it to an amp tech!
