POD HD 500 Amp Question

Hey! So I have a POD HD500. LOVE IT. it's awesome. I use it for my church and worship songs on stage and it works awesome. But at home when I practice, I plug it into a 15 watt Peavy Vyper Amp. Now as you can imagine, it sounds like crap. And it does. The amp is simply not meant to handle the power of the POD. So I was wondering, do you have an recommendations for good practice amps for my house that I can plug my POD into and it won't sound like crap?

Thanks!

Re: POD HD 500 Amp Question

Get a DT25(or DT50). I have a DT50 2x12 and it was one of the best choices I've made musically. It's a bit pricey though, so if you can't afford that, I'd say get some sort of small guitar cab(1x12 or 2x12) and a clean power amplifier and just run the HD500 into the power amp. That should work fine, and it would be a lot cheaper, as you can get a decent small cabinet for like $200-$300 depending on where you go and what brand you want, and a power amplifier if you go low wattage should be even cheaper than that.

Another option is to get a ridiculously clean amp(like a Fender or a Roland) and run the HD500 into the effects loop. That should work perfectly as well. A keyboard amp may also do the trick, but I haven't tried it with one of those so I can't be entirely sure.

If you post your budget, I'm sure one of us can make a more specific suggestion.

I run a DT25 and I love it. The only limitations are dual tones do not work and you will need to switch your patches to use preamps instead of full amp models.

Re: POD HD 500 Amp Question

I have no trouble using dual tones(aside from a glitch that happens occasionally, which can be fixed by loading a different preset and then going back to the dual one), and I actually prefer the full amp models because I muck around with the settings(sag, hum, bias, etc.) on them.

I dunno about the dual tones error with the DT25, but the full vs pre is mostly just taste.

Re: POD HD 500 Amp Question

At church you likely go through directly into a PA system right?

If that's the case just by a monitor .. either a live PA like monitor ..tower or wedge .. or get some studio monitors to plug into .. they sound better than an amp because this is what the POD was meant to have its sound pumped through as it already producing a mic'd up amp sound.

The speakers for these applications are totally different then one designed for a combo amp ...

The exception to this would be the series of amps specifically designed to complement the HD 500 .. which ciadude2 mentioned in his reply.

Good luck in your search lots of different options.
