There was an interview I read some time ago, where somebody from L6 (I think it was Marcus Ryle) touched upon the subject of IRs, and,
though he didn't explicitly say L6's cab modeling is based on IRs, he kinda tried to avoid answering the question when he was asked about it.
Don't take my words for a fact, it's been a while since I read it, and I may not remember correctly. The thing is, L6's cab modelling is probably
based on IRs since the beginning.
thanks for your answer, =)
actually my question was more about whether it would be techinically possible to load 1 (or two) IR file(s) in the pod hd500 ... or whether there is not enough memory or perhaps IR files are too big or...some other reason that makes it impossible to do so.
cab are pretty good for clean and crunch tones but honestly, if I use 2 IRs + 1 high gain amp model it takes me 10 seconds to dial ina good tone... whereas if I use the cab models...I really have to tweak and I'm never really satisfied! The ability to load 2 IR files would be quite enough to solve the problem...so I hope a technician will eventually pop by and answer the question.

you're definitely not the first to request this, nor will you be the last.
request it officially here:
BTW, I have found some nice ways of mixing cabs to get a thicker yet still crisp tone from the onboard cabs:
Also, definitely spend time with the Cab DEP's.

thanks for your answer, I can also get a pretty decent tone fron the onboard cab but the thing is that it takes way longer to dial it in than with an iR file..
basically what I do is that I first load 2 iRs that I use to dial in the amp ...and when I'm done, I remove the iR cab and turn the onboard cab to dial it in. That way is the best I have found to get good tone quickly.
If I dial the amp in with the cab on I keep tweaking and tweaking ..sometimes getting nowhere! lol
so being able to load one/two iR or maybe even to replace a given cab by an iR file would be interesting...but I still don't know whether the idea can be implemented..thanks for the link, I have sent em an email.

Not to sound like a noobie here - but just what is a impulse response file? I just spent some time reading pages of responses on this where everyone was talking about why Line 6 should allow it - but nothing to describe what it was?

an IR file is a static image of a cab (sound wise ofc) ..see the red wire website for instance for more info
ps: they offer a free pack of marshall cabs to download (but you'll need a loader like lepou's lecab2 to use it if you wanna try em out)
