Safely Remove Hardware Issue Pod HD500

I've had problems with my Pod HD500 USB port since I got it. It actually works, but when I plug the POD HD500 into my PC, I can use edit and when I'm done, the Pod HD500 does not show up in the "Safely Remove Hardware" list. As a result, when I unplug, I will eventually blue screen of death. I have tried this with 2 different PCs and I really have had no luck. I use it now, but I have to reboot every time I use Edit.
Any suggestions?
Do you close Edit before unplugging the HD500?
I actually never use the "safely remove device" option with USB devices on Windows anymore. I usually just close the software and unplug it.
I have been lately, but honestly, I have not waited for my laptop to crash before rebooting lately. I've dealt with this for almost a year now. I abandoned my POD HD500 for a time as a result. I've come full circle, but I now run a few pedals in front of it to get the sound I want through a Bassman. I love the POD, but the crashing issues have really been bad. I will try this and see if it helps. Being a programmer, it still perplexes me that I cannot find the USB device in the list like my other devices.
Just to clarify, the HD500 does show up in the list of available USB devices on my system. I'm running Windows 7 at the moment. Are you using the most recent drivers and latest version of HD500 Edit?
could be the pod is being used as a/the (usb)audio device in Your windows and therefore cannot be removed.
try disabling/removing it in the audio devices, see if that helps.
isnt it amazing how these programmers will always ask You: do you really want to do this or not, do you really want to quit etc.
but they wont bother asking when they mess up Your pc audio setup making the pod Your default audiocard device.
i wonder if this will happen again when i update to the new firm version.
for me, it was a major disaster, and undoing it has not returned my pc (xp) to the same stable audio workstation it was before first connecting the pod hd500, some occasional hickups remain.
my pci audio cards cost me twice the price of the hd500, and l6 really should ask before making changes to a perfectly running system.
When I plug the POD in, I hear the connect noise from Windows 7, and it is recognized by Edit. However, on 2 laptops, it does not show up in the list. I do find panaman's explanation interesting. I will check the audio device drivers when I get home. I also will run Safely remove hardware from My Computer to see if it shows up there as well. It just doesn't make the list on my task bar. I'll reply this evening.
So the POD HD500 does not show up in my Safely Remove Hardware list. It shows up as a "Sound, video and game controllers" in Device Manager. In devices and Printers, it shows up as an audio device.
Any thoughts on how to make thePOD show up as a removable device?
the items that normally appear in windows safe remove list (in the system tray area) are mass storage devices such as hard disks and usb memory sticks or memory cards contained in some connecetd object such as digital cameras..
in windows the safe remove procedure is used prior to disconnect them, to prevent eventual data loss..
the HD500 being not a mass storage device and not containing memory cards should not appear in that list..
my HD500 and my external usb audio interface have never appeared in the system tray safe remove list, on different PCs and Windows OSs
I think your blue screen of death pc problem is due to something else
I suspect an incompatibility with some software/driver installed on both PCs with which you tried to make the connection

The "Safely Remove Hardware" list is only for devices that use caching. Usually mass storage devices. It ensures all writes are completed before removing. The HD500 does not have caching and therefore should not appear in the Safely Remove Hardware list.
I used to get the BSOD with my Line 6 devices when I had Windows XP and a Logitech Camera. There seemed to be a device driver conflict. Try uninstalling any webcam device drivers you have and see if the problem goes away. At least then you would know if this was the problem, then you could decide what to do. Me, I've upgraded to Windows 7 and no longer have the problem.
