VDI Cables powering JTV59 corean model guitar

Hi! I have the so called "Dream Rig": JTV59 + Pod HD500 + DT25 combo. In order to power the JTV I have to conect the VDI cable and the 1/4 jack simultaneously!!!! I thought the VDI Cable conected to the HD500 would be enough!??!? Is this normal or do I have some kind of problem here?? In stage this is not practical at all!!! Can someone, please help me here?? Thanks a lot! Cheers.

Is there a particular reason against using battery?

Why do you have to plug both in? I don't have the DT25, but I use my JTV with the HD500 with only the VDI. Maybe you don't have the input selection on the HD500 set correctly?

you only need to plug both in if the VDI cable is going to the workbench interface, because that interface does not power the guitar... you shouldn't have to do this with the dream rig.

    I have the same setup.

I can confirm that you only need the JTV59 connected via VDI to the HD500 to get power and operate the guitar.  You do not need a battery or the 1/4 inch cable.

When you only use the VDI cable, can you switch the modelling on and off by pressing the MODEL knob and do you see the little led light up and go off when you do so?

If you don't get any light then it sounds like your VDI cable or one or either VDI socket is faulty.  Try using another VDI cable or just a regular RJ45 to determine if it is the cable.

If you can prove the cable is OK then it may be a faulty VDI socket on the guitar or the HD500 in which case you will need to contact Line6 to get it repaired.

If the model light comes on and goes off but you are not getting any sound via the HD500 unless you use the 1/4 cable then you need tio check what you have chosen for your INPUTs to the HD500 - maybe you have not selected VARIAX or you have VARIAX on INPUT2 but the patch is only processing INPUT1?  The default setting usually includes all available input options.  Check your input options for the patch.  If they look OK, then ensure that the INPUT option is set for PRESET, navigate to a new patch (empty memory location), then select inputs again and you should see the default selection for INPUT1 which should at least include GUITAR + VARIAX.  Input 2 usually defaults to SAME.

    Hope that helps!

        Hi Covelinhas,

Did you run through everything edstar suggested? Especially the input setups and powering on/off tests.

Let us know exactly what happened when you tried these things specifically.

Re: VDI Cables powering JTV59 corean model guitar

Hi Covelinhas,  I have just come back from a holiday in Cape Verde Islands!  Seen your reply and I recommend that you do not send your guitar, hd500 and dt25 back just yet!  From your answer it is not clear that you have determined where the fault lies!   It could just be that you have the wrong input selection on your HD500!

        1) Check what you have got set for your input selection on HD500.  Please report the values here for both INPUT 1 and 2.  NB: To hear the models you need to have VARIAX as an input option when using VDI cable!  If you only have GUITAR as an input option then you will only hear the sounds when 1/4 inch cable is connected to guitar input of HD500.

        2) When you only have the VDI cable connected, does the model knob illuminate when you press it down to switch on the modelling? If it does not illuminate then either the knob is too low and needs to be raised up slightly to enable you to fully depress the switch as reported in many threads, or power is not being transferred to the guitar from the hd500.  If the knob is not too low and allows you to engage and disengage the switch, then it must be no power is coming through the cable and that could be because the VDI cable is faulty OR that the JTV VDI socket is faulty OR that the HD500 VDI socket is faulty. That is 3 possible causes of the symptom and you need to isolate which one is the problem before committing to spending money on shipping the gear back to the UK.

I am hoping the problem is just that you have the wrong input selection on your HD500 as that is easily fixed!

Let me know what you find.  Thanks.
